I’ve been searching for a replacement for my Palm T/X  now that Palm has abandoned its users.  Although the iPod Touch seemed to be the choice, I refused to get sucked in by the Apple hype machine, so when I discovered an Android tablet for less than $100, I bit.  The Maylong M150 seemed to give me [...]

I think I saw a bumper sticker once that read  ”Dogs have owners; Cats have staff”.  This is certainly true in our household and one of the staff functions I least like to do is clean the litter box.  The folks at Scoop Free think they have the answer with their Ultra Scoop Free Self-Cleaning [...]

I’ve been using Powerline networking for several years and this is the 4th product I’ve  used and reviewed.  All the vendors provided ethernet over the AC lines in my house, but I could never quite get the throughput I expected, until now.  The Plaster Networks solution has similar hardware, however, they have intelligence built into their boxes [...]

This review is the culmination of a 2 year saga I’ve experienced with a potentially game changing product called Peek.  It offers unlimited email and text messaging using an always on cellular network for between $10 and $20 per month with no contract.  Unfortunately, the whole operation may go down in flames because of a total network [...]

netTALK DUO Review

in Home Tech, Reviews

It’s my belief that if you have a broadband Internet connection, you should dump your legacy phone service and join the growing number of people who embrace VOIP.  There are many products and providers to choose from and now netTALK has come out with a convertible product which can be used with or without a computer.

I’ve been using powerline ethernet for several years and it’s allowed  me to extend my home LAN to every corner of the house without having to rewire the building.   I have used and tested several HomePlug devices, but the innoband Wireless N solution is unique in that it also includes a WiFi access point.

If you think you need to run ethernet cables from your router upstairs to a device downstairs, you might be in the market for the ConneXt 200W-A1 from innoband.  You can save yourself some grief and money using this wireless ethernet bridge.  It really doesn’t get any easier than this.

Do you need a device that lets you know when you’ve forgotten or misplaced your smart phone? ZOMM thinks you do, and they’ve added the capability of a speaker phone, panic alarm and emergency assistance dialer.

Is there any tech company not making a media player?  This will be the fourth product of this type that I’ve reviewed for The Gadgeteer.  The main differentiating property of the devices, besides the price, seems to be the number of file types and codecs supported.  The MPLAY-HD has all the types I need and [...]

Sometimes a gadget comes along and you wonder how you’ve been able to live without it.  The nümi key by Mobeam is one of those rare finds.  For those of us that have a wallet/purse full of rewards cards, this device purports to make your  life easier and lessen the bulk in your wallet.  Does it live [...]

When I first discovered the Telephone Voice Transformer from Spy Gadgets, I thought it would be a fun gadget to have.  While it does what it’s supposed to, I can’t find a practical use for the device.  However, if you’re in law enforcement or a wannabe James Bond, this is for you.

I’ve been looking for a SATA drive docking station that’s both easy to use and reasonably inexpensive.  A while back I looked at the Startech unit, but it seemed more than necessary for a home application.  Today I have the Cirago docking station and it may be the answer to my requirements.

You’re probably saying “do we really need another mouse?”.  These were my sentiments before I received the Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 3500 (it is a mouthful).  The device does have a hook that makes it a reasonable investment.

Have you ever wondered if there was a device that was both a dual external drive dock AND a stand a lone duplicator?  Yeah….neither have I, but I found the StarTech SATDOCK22R and will see how this niche product works and what it may do for the home computer user.

It seems like there’s a new media center/player introduced every week, so there must be some interest out there.  I had the opportunity to try out the Cirago CMC2000 TV Platinum unit, one of the latest offerings from this Company.  If you want to record video, stream music and photos or listen to Internet radio, this could be [...]

I’m an enthusiastic proponent of backing up your systems, so when I was offered the opportunity to check out GoodSync2GO, I took a shot at it.  There are a plethora of programs/utilities that say they will painlessly save your data without having to think about it and I wanted to see where GoodSync2Go fits in.  [...]

I’ve never been a fan of the All-in-One concept, believing that it was at best a compromise between flexibility and footprint. I’ve also been increasingly frustrated with the money I’ve spent on ink cartridges for my Canon printer. The Kodak ESP3250 printer is advertised to address my concerns, and with this review we’ll find out if [...]

My first experience with noise cancelling technology was many years ago when I got bumped up to first class on a Singapore Airlines flight.  They offered us the headsets for a 15 hour flight to the West coast US and it made me want to buy a set when I got back home.  Unfortunately at that time the options [...]

The next time I purchase a house I will look for one that has Ethernet wired to all the rooms, but until that happens I need a way to get high speed LAN access in different areas of my home.  WiFi is too slow and unreliable.  One of the possibilities is a technology called Powerline Ethernet. [...]

For part of the year I live in an area where the local telecom company advertises dial-up as high speed Internet access.  To keep my sanity and actually get something done, I spend a lot of time at the library using their broadband connection or war-driving looking for open hot spots.  With the Wi-Fire WiFi [...]
