ARTICLE – You probably think that this is going to be a scammy post, and I wouldn’t blame you if you did. I thought the exact same thing when I saw a post on Facebook a couple of weeks ago. But something told me to click on the link just for fun, and I’m glad that I did because I got a check for $133 in the mail yesterday!

What am I talking about? Unclaimed property. Specifically, the site is called unclaimed.org, and it won’t cost you a dime to see if you have money lying around waiting for you to claim it. No, I’m not being paid to write this quick article. I’m sharing this because if I had $133 that I didn’t know was owed to me, many of you could have unclaimed money, too.

How does it work?

Go to unclaimed.org and either click the blue Find Your Property button or the yellow Select your state or province button.

I tried both options and ended up going to the Indiana gov site (I forgot to take a screenshot at the time) and saw that I had $132 of unclaimed money from Amazon. I had no idea what this was for—maybe some old Amazon affiliate fees or an old refund I never claimed. But I clicked the Claim button, entered my info, and two weeks later, a check arrived.

My check is legitimate, from the Office of the Indiana Attorney General’s Unclaimed Property division. It even includes earned interest!

I ended up checking for money for Jeanne, her brother, my sister, her husband, and my niece and her husband. Jeanne had .50 cents of unclaimed money from the BMV, and her brother had $24 from some weird publisher company I’ve never heard of.  I don’t think Jeanne will try to get a check for 50 cents, but I will tell her brother about the $24 because who would turn down $24?! Unfortunately, no one else in my family had money coming to them. But maybe you do! Go to unclaimed.org to find out, and if you end up getting hundreds or thousands of dollars from this tip, be sure to come back and let me know! 🙂

My wife and I have some coming out here in Virginia, but I don’t know how much yet. Thanks, Julie!

  3. My state ran a bunch of ads toward the end of last year, so I checked and had $53.00 that was “owed” to me. A week later, got the check in the mail.

  4. Hmm – I always check my state’s posted listings, yet this site found one for me and one for my long-deceased father, both from my state. Claimed and will see if they are still available or if we previously claimed it and they aren’t updating their data often.

  5. You just made my day! I found listings for me, my business and both my deceased mom and dad. Not sure on totals but 2 are over $250, 2 are over $100 and the one for me is less than $25. But, hey, it’s at least a meal somewhere! Thanks for the link Julie. This site found stuff that is not listed at all on our state site.
Also, I found listings for 14 different people I know that I sent them the link and a screenshot too. You helped a lot of people in our little town.
