G4 Slim Mouse

Mice come in all shapes and sizes these days. They are available in corded and non-corded varieties, using Bluetooth and other wireless protocols. Some run on batteries, some don’t. But all mice share a couple of important features… They have Left and Right buttons (ok, some Mac mice have just 1…), and they move the cursor around on your display. Today I’m going to tell you about the Slim Mouse. This mouse has those important features mentioned above, all bundled into an extremely thin package. Power Positioning (2P) actually claims that this mouse is the world’s thinnest. Is that a good thing? Let’s find out.

Spire Torq Backpack

Cory at Spire USA contacted me a few weeks ago and asked if I would be interested in reviewing their latest product: The Torq – a laptop backpack. Although I currently use a backpack bag for all my camera gear – the Crumpler Karachi Outpost backpack – and I only have one back, I thought I would give it a try. What could it hurt (aside from my back)?

Seagate FreeAgent Go

I’m still using the last external hard drive that I had the opportunity to review back in July of 2005. That was the Seagate Portable USB 2.0 drive. It’s been my 100gb backup drive for my desktop computer (iMac) all this time. Today I’m going to tell you about Seagate’s latest portable USB drive called the FreeAgent Go.

Ducti High Voltage Laptop Bag

During Julie’s last Garage sale, I picked up the Ducti High Voltage Messenger bag she had. I loved the bag’s unique style when I first read her review, although I didn’t think it was worth the $50, so I didn’t buy it from Ducti. That turned out to be a wise decision, since I got it from Julie for less than half the price! I really liked the bag when I first got it; it holds my 13″ MacBook with room for my cell phone, iPod, and keys. However, the bag has no padding for the laptop, so I knew if I wanted to keep the bag I would need a slipcover for my laptop.

Samsonite Pro-DLX Women’s 3-Compartment Briefcase

Recently my wife had to make the desktop to laptop transition for work. She received a Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop with a bulky Dell backpack that she lugs home each night. The backpack works fine but it seems a bit too much for her, so when Julie gave me the opportunity to review the Samsonite Pro-DLX women’s three-compartment briefcase from Luggagepoint.com, I jumped at the opportunity.

Logitech MX Revolution Cordless Laser Mouse

I have been using a Logitech MX1000 cordless mouse for just over 2 yrs now. I love it and am not sure I’d ever want to go back to a generic wired mouse. The MX1000 has served me very well, with long working time between charges (typically 2 weeks or so) and smooth action. Now I have the chance to tell you about the MX1000’s successor: the new MX Revolution rechargeable cordless laser mouse.

DocuPen RC800 Handheld Color Scanner

When I reviewed PLANon’s DocuPen R700 portable scanner almost one year ago, I immediately realized how handy this device could be to a wide variety of people. Having a full page scanner that can easily stow in a gear bag was quite liberating. The only problem with the R700, was the fact that it scanned only in Black and White, and didn’t really do that great of a job. Luckily, PLANon, didn’t stop with the R700. They now have the RC800, which can scan in full 24bit color.

Tom Bihn Archetype Molded Cork Laptop Case

She beat me to Venice, arriving on a special boat that I later saw docked on the Grand Canal. We had both been in transit for days, and I was excited for us to finally be in the same place at the same time. I thought I would be the first one to arrive when I boarded the westbound train earlier that day, but she was waiting for me in the hotel lobby. She was beautiful.

Madsonline Lucille Apple Powerbook/iBook AC Adapter

Power adapters. These bulky bricks are a necessary evil for electronics, even more so for gadget lovers. My gear bag is daily weighed down by several power adapters and when I travel my bag contains at least 5-6 adapters.

Many devices are now able to be charged via USB or Firewire, but on a laptop ports can be a premium. Additionally, many laptops do not charge external devices while in sleep mode.

EDGE Tech diskGO 2.5″ Backup Ultra Portable Hard Drive

One of my regularly watched television shows is the Discovery Channel’s It Takes a Thief. The point of the show is to demonstrate how easy it is for a thief to break into someone’s house and steal everything with any value; the show aims to educate people on better ways to protect themselves from being a victim. On one of last season’s episodes, they featured a grandmother who had transferred all of her family photos and documents to her computer’s hard drive. During the course of that particular show’s staged robbery, the thief emptied the grandmother’s silver drawer, jewelry box and medicine cabinet, and then he picked up her computer tower and casually carried it out the door. Had the robbery been real, all of her carefully collected family photos and documents would have been gone forever. Even though the “victim” knew she would be getting all of her possessions back at the end of the show, I still couldn’t help but feel sorry for her as she agonized over the idea of losing her digital treasures.
