NEWS – If you’ve ever wished for a spoon that could also be used as a straw, then today is your lucky day. Yeah, yeah, I don’t think I’ve ever daydreamed about spoons with built-in straws, but now that I know that they exist, I’m intrigued. The KA-BAR Krunch is a 7.25 inch long spoon that has a straw built into the handle. It’s made of a material called Creamid. You probably have other items in your kitchen drawers that are made of this lightweight, strong material that is dishwasher safe. Here’s the gotcha… the design doesn’t allow the bottom of the straw to get to the bottom of your glass or bowl due to the actual spoon part. If you’re still interested and think this might be useful, you can check out the Krunch at kabar.com and Amazon, where it’s $10.97.

  2. This kind of spoon sort of existed before this one, it’s the spoon used for the McFlurry at McDonald’s. 😉

The McFlurry spoons have a square handle but it is hollow all the way through to where it meets the bowl. Some people (me included), let the McFlurry melt a bit and then suck it through the spoon. It comes free with the purchase of a McFlurry. That’s IF the McFlurry machine is working.

    1. Actually you are wrong. The purpose of the hole in the Mcflurry spoon isn’t for you to use as a straw. It’s used to blow air into the ice cream so the candies can easily be blended in the cup.

  3. I confess myself mystified as to the purpose of this thing. Every kid has probably tried to drink hot liquid through a straw at some point or other, only to realize it’s a great way to burn the inside of your mouth with a jet of scalding liquid. So hot liquids are out for the straw part. Cold liquids that are generally drunk with a straw are not often consumed with a spoon. I guess you could use it to drain the remaining milk from a bowl of cereal, perhaps, or melted ice cream as suggested above? (The design flaw mentioned in the article notwithstanding; I suppose you could invert the spoon, but that feels like grasping at straws.)

I was going to say that I could see a fork-straw combination to allow you to drink soup through it, but that goes back to what I said above about straws and hot liquids, and a spork works just fine for the same purpose…
