P3 Bowers Wilkins 1

Bowers and Wilkins are known for their very good – and very expensive – audio speakers. In recent years, they have aggressively ventured into the world of iDevices with the Zeppelin Air, P5 headphones and C5 earphones (see related links for our reviews). However, most people will never pay $300 for the P5 headphones, no matter how good they sound. And they do sound very good! So B&W has come out with a (somewhat) less expensive, but much more portable pair of headphones; the P3.

The P3s were made for commuting, since they are smaller and lighter than the P5s, and fold neatly for storage into a hard-shell case. They come in white or black, both with brushed aluminum accents. As with many B&W products, the P3s are well designed and solid looking.

The P3s use redesigned drivers and magnets that take advantage of the smaller dimensions. B&W says that, “The P3’s speaker diaphragms have been positioned to ensure uniform airflow, resulting in less distortion and ensures a more accurate, natural sound.” Even the ear cushion fabric was specifically designed for better sound and uses memory foam for a more comfortable fit.

The P3 headphones come with two removable cables; one with a mic for iPhones and one without for all other phones and MP3 players. They will be available in June 2012 and will retail for $199 US.
