Sumo, who are well known for their modern day bean bag furniture, has a new product that uses air instead of beans as a filler. The Sumo Air is a lounge chair that can easily go from the living room to the beach and even to the pool. Let’s take a closer look.
What is it?
The Sumo Air is an air inflatable lounge that is made of thin nylon material and is available in six different colors. It folds up easily for storage in the included drawstring shoulder bag.
The Sumo Air is lined with plastic so it can even be used in a pool. It has two air tubes that are inflated as you sweep through the air. Once filled, you roll down the top edge of the tubes and secure them with a plastic clip. The lounge is then ready for lounging 🙂 Check out my video below, which does a better job of showing how the Sumo works.
See it in action
Lessons learned: I squint too much, and I need to get more exercise because running back and forth around my yard wore me out! It didn’t help that it was almost 90 degrees outside when I made this video. 🙂
Final thoughts
Does the Sumo Air work as advertised? Yes. But it does take practice and some effort to inflate it and unless you’re swiping it around in a lot of wind (I don’t advise using the Sumo Air in a hurricane or tornado), you probably will not be able to inflate it as much as you would like.
I wasn’t overly impressed with it, but Jeanne wants to take it with us when we go to Sanibel Island, Florida in October. She thinks it might be great for lounging on the beach. If we do bring it along, I’ll be sure and update the review afterwards.

Thanks for this. I’ve been curious, but I’ll pass on the flaccid lounger.
We LOVE the video!!!! This is how you should do all your reviews!!!!
Thanks! I had a lot of fun with it. I have always thought that I look, sound and act like a complete dork in videos so that’s why I very rarely make them where I’m in front of the camera. But I’m working on overcoming that “fear” and will be making more.
You were great, Julie. It’s hard to imagine anyone not looking a little dorky running around trying to get that thing inflated. I laughed at the hot dog line. I’ve read mixed things about this product. The idea is appealing, but unfortunately it looks like it could use some refinement.
Thanks Ross! I’m not sure how they could improve the Sumo Air. I do think that it would fill much easier on a very windy day. It’s just awkward to fill it and then quickly fold down the top before losing a lot of the air.
Julie, with this video in the review, you have won the internet for the day.
Ha! Thanks! 😀
Good review.
Bad “chair”.
My only change would have been to use Yakety Sax for the “flaccid” lounger music.
🙂
Hope it works out on your vacation, I love Sanibel. Have a blast.
You stole my Yakety Sax line!
Thanks for the review. I am planning to get a version of these inflatable loungers for gifts for the grandkids and am just starting to research the different brands.
Thanks for the laugh, Just watched that sans-audio. It reminded me of an old Charlie Chaplin silent film. All you need is a cane.
