  1. Gadgeteer Comment Policy - Please read before commenting
  2. 1. I prefer the more detailed reviews. It means more to me if someone has actually spent some time with the object being reviewed and gives a more in depth perception of it.
    2. I prefer written reviews. I often read this site at work and watching a video is not something I like doing at work. It would be nice to have a video add on to a written review if trying to demonstrate how a device works.
    3. I like the team reviews. It often shows different perspectives which can be beneficial.

  3. I prefer shorter new and reviews more frequently, I enjoy the more detailed news and review articles. However with the revisits on some new and reviews it does fill the need when wanting more detail.

I like like them both however throughout a business day it is a lot easier to read a review when I have a moment than watch a video review which I either get distracted from or miss bits due to be courteous with volume. Video reviews are great for out of the office though.

I think I enjoy the individual reviews and articles the best feels more first hand and cohesive.

  4. 1. Shorter news more frequently
    2. Written reviews > video reviews (I don’t like to watch videos at work)
    3. Individual reviews > group reviews

  5. 1) Longer and more detailed reviews, and comparisons. Not just single product.
    2) Written review
    3) Individual review and articles. Team review of a single product would be good as well.

  6. 1.) Long detailed reviews.
    2.) Written reviews.
    3.) Individually written.

Could you consider using typeform.com next time? The Android app currently in beta would take no time at all and give you all results as they happen.

  7. 1. Reviews should be detailed, even if that means less frequent. As a consumer, if I’m interested in buying a product, I will be willing to read a long review, because logically I want to get the most out of my money. Longer reviews, as long as they are still filled with quality, would also show the site in a better light, as it shows care and effort in each review, which is always beneficial.
HOWEVER, news should be shorter and more frequent. I am only willing to read so much about a single story, about a company I usually barely know. News should also be a constant stream in the best possible scenario.

    2. Yes! Video reviews can seen with little effort on the part of the viewer compared to written reviews. If your chances are good and your videos are well-produced, reviews may also provide more exposure on sites like YouTube, should you decide to post all of them there.

    3. Individual reviews should be good if the reviewer has a personality. Individual reviews provide the benefit of feeling more personal and allow the reviewer’s personality to shine through; if review is simply an objective overview, the team review is definitely preferred.

Hey, great job on putting this together! This is definitely a great way to put your site in the spotlight!

  8. 1.Would you rather we posted shorter news and reviews more frequently, or longer more detailed news and reviews less frequently? I would much rather prefer shorter news and more reviews. If there is something special, then go deeper on it.
2.Do you like video reviews more than written reviews? I like the old fashioned written reviews with good high quality pictures.
3.Which do you like best, team reviews/articles or individual reviews/articles? I like individual reviews. The team reviews tend to have conflicting points and I wind up more confused than when I started.

  9. Would you rather we posted shorter news and reviews more frequently, or longer more detailed news and reviews less frequently?
    * Toss-up on this one depending on the product. For some, I appreciate the short news/review, but those of interest I’m willing to wait for a longer review. I guess on the whole, I’d prefer shorter and more frequent.

Do you like video reviews more than written reviews?
    * Heck no. Written reviews all the way. While I understand video may be somewhat quicker to produce, I’m less likely to actually view them because it takes longer to get the same information and requires attention to not miss some detail. With a written review, I can get the information I want quickly and can easily backtrack to catch something I missed or want to re-read. Written reviews also come through in RSS readers, which means I can easily catch them on the go.

Which do you like best, team reviews/articles or individual reviews/articles?
    * No huge preference here. I like the team reviews for the different perspectives, but can appreciate individual reviews as that gets an article out more quickly.

  10. 1.I like both types of reviews. Some items you want more detail info. I like the frequency now. Even more, I might miss something!
2.I can’t say I’ve seen too many video reviews, so I prefer written.
    3.I like the individual reviews/articles.

  11. 1. Longer more detailed reviews (with lots of photos) would be the best. Also, real world usage reviews to see how the product holds up over time.
    2. Written reviews are preferred over video reviews. Only do video reviews if the product is “action activity” related. Example, GoPro cameras, drop tests, robotics, etc.
    3. Individual reviews are still the best.

  12. 1. Longer more detailed reviews – especially for some new gadget you actually test that doesn’t have an Amazon review history
    2. I dislike video reviews. I am rarely reading in a place where I can watch/listen to video.
    3. I like both, with probably a bit of preference to individual ones by people whose prior reviews have shown me they are reliable reviewers.

  13. 1) I like the longer reviews because you can put in more details, esp. if there is some quirk to the gadget that shows up after more testing.
    2) I like the written reviews, so I can skim through to the parts that are interesting to me.
    3) The team reviews are fun, esp. to see the debates between different opinions. Seems like they would take longer to write, though.

  14. I like the shorter reviews of more things. It’s better for smaller objects rather than serious tech objects like phones.
I like the written reviews of smaller objects, but video reviews of the serious tech objects.
Once again, individual reviews for smaller objects, and team reviews for more serious tech objects.

  15. I would like-

    – shorter news and reviews more frequently
    – I prefer written reviews
    – individual reviews/articles

  16. I like longer, detailed reviews. There are tons of sites out there that post quick news snippets; I prefer first-hand, detailed reviews.

I prefer written reviews. I visit from work quite a bit and making time to watch a video is usually out of the question.

I like the team reviews because they’re so unique to this site. It’s one of the reasons I’ve been a Gadgeteer reader for so long.

  17. I like both news and reviews but would prefer they were more clearly identified. This may mean a site format change which I would not wish on anyone but reading news thinking it will be a review is annoying. Perhaps different color headers for types of content?

Written is my preference. If I want video, I would suspect I can go to the Mfg web site and see such a thing.

Individual reviews are my preference. I like bag dumps, desk descriptions and phone app favorites which can be seen as a group effort but are individual efforts in serial fashion.

    I just like Gadgeteer.

  18. I like the longer and more detailed reviews. If it is a product I may want to buy, I want to know all the little details. News information I like kept shorter. Something I can see at a glance. I like written reviews rather than videos. I can quickly browse and get to any specific info I want rather than going thru a video. Individual articles are nice. Each of you have a personality and it shows in the articles.

  19. I prefer shorter, more frequent reviews with a link for more detailed info if I’m interested. My preference for reviews would be written vs. video, for times when viewing from my phone or tablet. I enjoy both team and individual reviews, helps to draw my own conclusions.
    Love Gadgeteer Daily Digest!

  20. 1. I prefer the in-depth reviews, particularly for new products.
    2. Definitely like your video reviews more than the written ones.
    3. Team reviews are great for new and popular products, but I don’t think they are necessary for every item. An individual review works great and allows one to do further research for something that peaks their interest.

  21. 1. I would prefer more frequent detailed news and reviews.
    2. I prefer written reviews with good photography.
    3. I enjoy the individually written reviews.

  22. 1) Not every product warrants a lengthy review, so the mix does it: news, short and frequent to keep all the gadgeteer addicts informed, long reviews whenver there is a gadget, an app or whatever that needs in-depth exlaining – if only to convey personal opinions, examples of everyday usability etc.

    2) There’s tons of video reviews on the net without any informational value whatsoever. More, not everyone who can click a “record” button is able to actially DO a video review … it’s not the picture alone (field of vision, focus) but the sound … uh’s and ah’s and em’s dont enhance understandability.
So, no, videos where necessary and done in a way highlighting issues that cannot be easily put into words, rather written reviews that allow the reader to reread points of interest, skim the entire review quickly and easily jump to paragraphs that catch the attention.

    3) Team reviews are OK but most leave the reader confused when, in order to broaden the scope of info, opposing views are presented but not argued.

  23. 1) shorter news and reviews more frequently
    2) written reviews
    3) Depends on the gadget you are reviewing. Smaller stuff, one person. More significant stuff, team review.

  24. I like short reviews and news, with links to the more” in depth” versions.
It’s easier for me to read reviews and articles than watch videos.
I really like the individual reviews, ones where someone has actually spent some time using the product.

  25. I think the reviews are just the right length
    Written reviews – no videos
Team reviews – love different opinions

  26. 1.Short review with link to the detailed
    2. Written
    3. Individual with reviews by the person with the greatest technical knowledge of that items (where applicable)

  27. 1. I think your current mix of longer reviews and shorter news items is perfect. Especially because the news you cover is unique stories that all the big tech blogs don’t post.
    2. I enjoy when video accompanies a written review. It’s helpful for demonstrating certain features or product quirks!
    3. I don’t often see team reviews but really like hearing multiple writers’ perspectives on an item. It helps paint a more complete picture of the product, especially pros and cons.

  28. 1. I prefer shorter news and reviews more frequently.

    2. No, I dislike video reviews and rarely view them. I come to this site specifically for the written reviews.

    3. Either way, I enjoy the mix of team vs. individual content.

  29. Most of all, keep up the great work!

    But, since you asked:

    1) Longer, more detailed reviews.

    2) Written reviews, all the way.

    3) Individual reviews as the default, with Team reviews every now and then for variety– ideally response-driven (ie, a product that more than one person has a clear response to, yea and/or nay, instead of “Time for A Team Review, let’s do this”).

    Thanks for the chance. 🙂

  30. I like longer, detailed reviews. I learn more that way and don’t have to bounce around the internet looking for more info.
I also prefer the written reviews instead of the video reviews.
I prefer individual reviews instead of team reviews.
    Thank you.

  31. 1. Honestly, that depends on the device. Some products do not need lenghtly reviews, while others do. The more detail the better though, so I’d lean towards longer, less frequent.
    2. Unless there is something that needs video to show it’s functionality properly, I prefer written reviews.
    3. I prefer individual reviews to team reviews.

  32. I think the mix or short posts and longer reviews is just about right.
I have no interest in video reviews, and I will not take the time to watch them.
I like the individual reviews for the most part. The team reviews can be a nice break, though.

  33. 1. I prefer longer reviews less often. More useful information is better than lots of silly noise.
    2. I look at the site from work, so would not watch video reviews very often. I prefer written reviews.
    3. Individual reviews tend to have better flow in my opinion. I prefer them vs a team review.

  34. 1. I prefer more in-depth reviews. I’m reading to help form an opinion
    2. I very much prefer written to video. Video is quite disruptive to everyone in the room and there if often someone to bother.
    3. Generally individual is better. It allows me to, over time, learn the reviewer’s knowledge and biases compared to my own.

  35. 1. Um. I’m thinking that I’d like something akin to the setup the New Yorker follows. Each week brings one really long, in depth article, a fistful of medium articles, and an astounding amount of snippets. So, in one cycle, a bunch of one page snippets, a few six or seven page versions of your normative reviews, and one twenty page in depth really . . .crucial fanboy review. I’d think that reader input and your personal preference would determine which articles would be covered in a longer review, and certainly would appreciate an opportunity to have a considered opinion.

    2) I suspect that I might watch a video review that was either on some high end widget I was weighing purchasing, or something truly remarkable that would revolutionize modern life. Otherwise I can extract the same information in a tenth of the time via print.

    3) I can’t summon up a directive level interest in whether I’m reading team articles or individual submissions.

    4) sorta. Twitter is the fourth horse of the impending apocalypse. Not gonna play. I was blackmailed into a Facebook account, and will link forthwith.

    Thank you for asking.

  36. I prefer shorter more frequent reviews.
I prefer written to video reviews.
    And, individual over team reviews.

  37. Would you rather we posted shorter news and reviews more frequently, or longer more detailed news and reviews less frequently? I enjoy the longer, more details reviews.

Do you like video reviews more than written reviews? The medium isn’t what I care about, the information or quality of presentation is. Videos are great, but aren’t easy to look great. Words are less exciting, but easier to fill with content. Maybe a happy medium in between?
Which do you like best, team reviews/articles or individual reviews/articles? I’ve enjoyed your team reviews of phones before, get a few different stances on a product

  38. I would rather have the detailed reviews even if they come less frequently. Having more information helps me make a better buying decision.

I would prefer a written review or a combination of the two when you just have to see it to believe it.

I have enjoyed the team reviews because it give you 2 perspectives of the same product. What’s good to me may not be so good for you.

  39. With news and announcements being different than a product review this info can be smaller more frequent with possible follow ups, with reviews as you put it longer more detailed and very through is my preference.

I’ve gone to Youtube many times to see how a product is hook-up, programed, solving some problems etc. so a video in a written review can be beneficial.

If I’m undecided about buying something I would think a team review would help me better but I can’t remember the last time that happened so an individual review/articles is OK by me.

  40. Q1. Would you rather we posted shorter news and reviews more frequently, or longer more detailed news and reviews less frequently?

    A. The in-depth shows you really have reviewed, tried and tested and that I like!

Q2. Do you like video reviews more than written reviews?

    A. I like both as when time is short, I can decide which to watch or read.

Q3. Which do you like best, team reviews/articles or individual reviews/articles?

    A. All are acceptable, team reviews do give different perspective though.

  41. 1. I like a little of both – some things are quite complicated and require a more in depth review, others are fairly simple and don’t require you to embellish much

    2. Video reviews are helpful when pictures and written reviews can’t adequately describe the item – eg. items you wear: back packs/shoulder bags, or when trying to demonstrate a unique moving feature

    3. Individual

  42. 1.- Shorter reviews more frequently because i read your page every day and if you post longer i will visit the page one time per week at least.

2.- I like written reviews, more items and gadgets

3.- Individual reviews can apply best, this reviews have more focus on the items.

  43. I enjoy the mix of brief news and long reviews. I don’t think going strictly one way or another is a good idea.
    I prefer written reviews.
i like a mix of in ideal and team, but if you held a gun to my head, I would choose individual reviews/articles.

  44. I prefer short new and detail with 3-6 month update on that product
I like video ( see how it work) and written (detail info that i might miss during video or some place i cant watch). That mean i like both
I love mix of group and individual.

  45. Would you rather we posted shorter news and reviews more frequently, or longer more detailed news and reviews less frequently? I like the short and to the point reviews best, although there are times the in-depth report is just essential.

Do you like video reviews more than written reviews? I prefer the written reviews. I can scan to a point of interest without the need to invest in the whole thing if time is an issue.

Which do you like best, team reviews/articles or individual reviews/articles? I’m not opposed to either.

  46. Shorter news and more frequently. Be picky about when to write longer and more in-depth. Let the length of the review be part of the review itself.
Much greater preference for written reviews. Makes them more consumable in more places and times – I can’t always break out earphones for an A/V review.
Individual reviews are somewhat preferable; the team reviews also have their place.

  47. Julie…. Good questions. Let’s take them from e top..

    1) Would you rather we posted shorter news and reviews more frequently, or longer more detailed news and reviews less frequently?
Ans.. I prefer more detailed news and deeper reviews. IF the reviews have to be less frequent, so be it, but the info coming from more in-depth analysis is priceless.

2 ) Do you like video reviews more than written reviews?

    Video vs. Writtenn…

    3) Which do you like best, team reviews/articles or individual reviews/articles?

Team. Every individuals single view is biased just like everyone elses but put them together, the outcome is far better…

  48. Would you rather we posted shorter news and reviews more frequently, or longer more detailed news and reviews less frequently? Shorter news and more frequently.

Do you like video reviews more than written reviews? Written reviews.

Which do you like best, team reviews/articles or individual reviews/articles?Individual reviews/articles.

  49. I like the more detailed reviews.
I’m old school – I like to read my reviews.
This one is a toss up – sometimes different views helps.

  50. 1. Longer more detailed news and reviews less frequently — I prefer articles that are more indepth and thorough!
    2. I think both serve useful functions so there’s value in both. I would say a slight edge to written, but videos are easy to digest when doing something else or traveling, while written are easier to skim if time is at a premium.
    3. I am indifferent here, but team articles offer additional perspective.

  51. 1) I like the longer reviews because you can put in more details, esp. if there is some quirk to the gadget that shows up after more testing.
    2) I like the written reviews, so I can skim through to the parts that are interesting to me.
    3) The team reviews are fun, esp. to see the debates between different opinions. Seems like they would take longer to write, though.

  52. 1. I prefer shorter news and reviews more frequently.
    2. I prefer written reviews.
    3. I prefer team reviews for more opinions.

  53. 1. I prefer longer, more detailed news and reviews.

  57. My thoughts, as follows:
    1. Condensed news with succinct and to the point(s) reviews more frequently for me, please. If my interest is piqued, I will do a deeper dive.
    2. Written, as the primary with a video attached for understanding inherent details better, if editors deem it necessary.
    3. While I understand and appreciate the value of collaborative output, I prefer individual reviews/ articles. The notion that more people help to filter doesn’t stick with me.

I prefer to have both! I read far faster than I can watch, but video often shows things better about the actual in use gadget. Forced choice: Written. With still photos.

Written reviews are better as I can read on my phone in public.

    Individual reviews are best.

  66. 1. Review length about right as is.

Of course, all three of these questions have an “it depends” attribute to them. 🙂
