I thought my quest to find my all time favorite pen ended when I found Uniball Jetstream pens a few years ago. Don’t get me wrong, I still like the Uniballs because I don’t get too upset if someone walks off with one or I lose one. But I’ve recently found myself wanting something nicer. Something more unique. So I’m on a quest for my favorite “cool” pen. I’ve reviewed a few nice ones in the last couple of months and the latest one to scribble my thoughts is the Ti2 TechLiner from Ti2 Design. I usually prefer clicky pens, but the magnetic cap on the TechLiner is so much fun that this pen will definitely earn a spot in my top faves list. But will it earn the number one spot on that list? Keep reading to find out.

The Ti2 TechLiner is made of Titanium Grade 2 and is available in a variety of finishes. I was sent the tumbled finish version. A satin finished Titanium pocket clip or an acid washed phosphor Bronze pocket clip can be added to the pen for an additional $10.

As you can see from the image above, the TechLiner pen is almost identical in length and diameter to a standard Bic stick pen.

I love the way the TechLiner looks and feels. It has a satin finish that is smooth to the touch. Even the knurled grip sections on the ends are smooth with no sharp edges.

The cap posts to either end with a satisfying click that makes me smile every time I use it. The rare earth magnets are really strong, so there’s no fear of the cap becoming dislodged by accident in your pocket or gear bag.

Check out this very short video clip that I made which demonstrates how the magnetic cap is attracted to the pen.

The pen easily disassembles into 11 parts (that includes the pocket clip).

Each part has been expertly designed and machined here in the USA by Mike Bond and his wife in their Pearl City, Hawaii shop.

The only thing I noticed that required a little bit of tweaking was the magnet on the tail end. There was a slight rattle when the cap wasn’t posted on the end. To fix this I just disassembled the pen and placed a very small piece of paper between the magnet and the plastic spacer. Rattle gone.

ti2-techliner-7The Ti2 TechLiner uses the Signo 207 refill series shown above. Ti2 Design adds a special magnet assembly to the end of the refill, which allows the cap to post on the ink end.

The assembly consists of three parts. There’s a rare earth magnet, a plastic spacer and an O ring.

As I mentioned at the beginning of this review, the Ti2 TechLiner is on my list of favorite cool pens. Right now it’s in the number one spot because it feels great in hand, looks great and the magnetic cap is too much fun. As far as Ti2 Design’s choice to go with the Signo refill, I have no complaints at all because it’s the same refill used in the inexpensive Uniball Jetstream pens that I like so much.

If you’re a fan of Titanium and magnets, the Ti2 TechLiner pen will definitely impress you. It has me.
