novothink e1268338759767The Novothink Solar Surge is the first solar charging case for the iPhone and iPod Touch to be certified by Apple. This product has a built in lithium-ion polymer battery (1500mAH for iPodTouch and 1320mAH for iPhone) and claims to double battery life by using cutting-edge solar panel technology to power up directly from the sun. It has 4 LEDs that let you know if you have a sufficiently powerful light source in addition to how much charge remains in the battery. There’s even a free Solar Planner App that provides an estimate of how much sun exposure is necessary to maintain the battery level of your iPod Touch or iPhone based on your everyday usage and the current weather forecast. The Novothink Solar Surge is available now in Black and White from Novothink.com at an MSRP of $79.95 for iPhone 3G/3G S and $69.95 for iPod Touch(2nd Gen).

  2. I’ve read somewhere that iPhones has a problem with direct sunlight causing them to overheat. The iPhone even has a error message that pops up on the unlock screen about high temperatures. Won’t this product cause the same problem since you have to expose it to direct sunlight for a long period of time to charge it?

  3. You dont have to leave your Iphone in the sun at all. The solar surge has its own battery, so you can leave the charger in the sun to charge its internal battery without the Iphone docked. Then once you need extra power, just push your iphone into the case and it will transfer the power from the Surge to your iphone. But Jackie your right, I would never leave my Iphone in the sun!!

  4. This is a useless item. It not only doesn’t charge my ipod but it runs down a good battery if left plugged in, even in the sun. Don’t buy one it wont work after a week, just like mine and the company wont do anything about it, just like when I contacted them.
