Here’s a great little addition to your gear bag.  The Compact USB Surge Protector from Satechi can protect your laptop from power surges and spikes and provide you with a separate USB charger port with conditioned power, too.  The USB charger provides 5V, 1A power to charge up a smartphone or MP3 player while leaving the USB ports on your laptop free for other things – important when you’re traveling with some of today’s tiny computers with only a couple of USB ports.  An LED on the front of the surge protector assures you when your gadgets are sufficiently protected.  When the protection circuitry has been eroded by power and current spikes, the LED won’t illuminate, letting you know it’s time to buy a new surge protector.  The Satechi Compact USB Surge Protector is available now for $9.99 at Satechi.net and Amazon.com.

Argh. Why is anybody making a new USB charger that doesn’t do at least 2.1a?

1 amp only? What a waste… I would’ve bought like 50 of these to spread around the house and offices….if only it came in 2.1 amps.

I have a few devices that’ll work on it :)
