iPads are Taking Over the World and Cash Registers

The Cashbox from Happy Owl Studio turns an iPad into a cash register/point-of-sale system. You supply the iPad and Happy Owl Studio supplies the Square credit card reader, industry standard Vasario 1416 APG Cash Drawer, Star TSP 650 receipt printer and your choice of 3 snazzy looking bamboo housing styles. Being techy and snazzy comes at a price though… $1186.00 if you opt for to include the cash drawer and receipt printer. $899 without. But don’t forget that you’ll still have to add an iPad.

This is more fashion than function, so i really do wonder what sane store will even consider installing one (let alone more than one)…

Digi_owl:

I think this might appeal more to the “indoor-swap meet” stall type shops with brisk customer traffic than real brick/mortar shops.

A decent cash register w/cash drawer + credit card reader isn’t MUCH cheaper than this. But this is still overkill.

This is great, but haven’t the US banks started the Chip and PIN roll out yet ? If so this wouldn’t work and you cant tack on a Chip and PIN device without some hefty PCI ( Payment Card Industry ) certifications. All the better to keep our card numbers secure!!! Its pretty, but the only secure devices are on windoze slates at present.

Digi_owl, you’re right. There’s not a store on EARTH that deals with people who are interested in fashion or style or design. That would be silly. Everybody on the planet only cares about functionality.
