iBamboo Speaker for iPhone 4

The iBamboo speaker is another innovation seeking funding through Kickstarter.  It’s a speaker exclusively for the iPhone 4 that is literally a piece of foot-long bamboo with a carved iPhone dock opening.  That’s it.  There are no cables, no batteries, no need for electricity whatsoever.  Once the iPhone is placed in the dock, the bamboo acts as a natural stereo amplifier for the phone’s native speaker.  The sound quality is actually better than expected, though it seems intended more for classical and instrumental music as evidenced by the inventor’s demo videos.

iBamboo is not only eco-friendly (made from sustainable materials and requiring no electricity to operate) but also a rather unique conversation piece.  iBamboo isn’t in production just yet, but is expected to retail between $25-$30.  The project page on Kickstarter is running through July 9th and a $25 donation up until that point will reserve you an iBamboo and case.

Perhaps I’ll make my own version of this and call it “iPapertowel Roll” or “iPVC Pipe” :)

The bamboo idea is a good one though… I’ve seen bamboo bikes, luggage, musical instruments, etc when I was living overseas. Strong, cheap, and renewable…
