REVIEW – The Brunt Scott Jacket is pretty tough. It will bear the brunt of your career or casual pursuits. Wind nor water can get through it. Even though it’s waist length, it performed well in my winter temps. I think the Scott jacket style would be right for chores around your property, as weekend or job work-wear, and for errands in town. This isn’t a first date jacket. Use this one for your work and play.

Design and features
My photos are of the Brunt Scott Jacket right out of the box. After washing it (see water test below) I pressed the collar and near the bottom front of the jacket. The Scott is made of tough, canvas-like material and is available in brown (medium tan) and charcoal (medium gray). The collar probably needs to be kept up. Since it’s stiff, it might take some wearers time to get used to it as your face occasionally turns into it as you go through your day. I tried folding the collar down and that might work if you wear the jacket unzipped or unzipped ⅓ down. But it’s designed to be up so I wore it up.
There is a good supply of pockets in the Scott Jacket. One at each hip-side, one inside the jacket at the upper right, and one at the outer left chest. All pockets are zippered.
There is a double zipper slider arrangement for the main jacket zipper. This allows for the jacket to be zipped up to the neck, then unzipped from the bottom as far up as you want. I can’t imagine wearing any jacket that way. It seems to announce gut girth. But the feature is there if you want to use it. Maybe if you’re wearing a tool belt?
Performance
I found the sleeves a bit too long for my overall medium size. The medium size was perfect for me in the shoulders, back, chest and waist, but my arms aren’t as long as the sleeves on the Scott medium jacket. Maybe this is intentional for a work jacket? When doing long reaches with the Scott jacket you wouldn’t feel restricted in the arms and shoulders.
I wanted to see if the water-proofness would survive a washing so I laundered the Scott with other pastels in a warm load and dried it in a medium heat dryer. It could be my imagination but I think the sleeves shrunk up maybe ⅛”. The material is pre washed so there’s that.
The cuffs can be turned up which reveals the black liner material. Note my right sleeve. My wife verified that wasn’t a bad look.
The washing did not affect the water proofness at all. I can’t say if frequent, repeated washes would weaken the finish but most of us wouldn’t need to wash a jacket a lot of times in a year. Brunt says the jacket is washable with like colors in cold water with no fabric softener, and should be dried in low heat. The jacket should not be dry cleaned.
I wore the Scott in temperatures from upper twenties to forties, and on a day that went to 60 degrees. When it was 60 and breezy I was more comfortable with the jacket zipped up. In a store that day it was more comfortable unzipped but it never got uncomfortably warm.
Final thoughts
The Brunt Scott Jacket is a rugged jacket with the right amount of lining for most fall, winter and spring weather. Since my brother got another inch of height that I wish had come to me, I think I found the perfect birthday gift for him. I expect it to be a good fit for his 5’11” frame.

Nice review, Lex! Regarding the double zipper, I have found it nice to be able to leave jackets fully zipped and then pull up a bit from the bottom when driving. I have a small car, so sitting in that bucket seat and accessing the seatbelt is difficult is a jacket/coat goes too far below the waist. Bomber-type jackets can be pulled up a bit, but if they are fitted at all, unzipping from the bottom makes getting into and out of the seat belt less hassle. Then, there’s the pocket access when you’re at the drive-thru! I tend to keep my car cool, even in winter, so don’t want to fully unzip for most trips. YMMV!
Great point Smythe. This jacket does send a bulge our front when seated and it looks and feels funny. Duh. I shoulda up-zipped !
My brother notes that up-zipping also helps with second amendment access as well.
