Citizen has been making solar powered watches that never need a battery or need to have their batteries recharged for years. I have 3 of them.
I used a Casio solar powered watch for years, until I smashed it by accident. Ran for years…never needed a battery, and didn’t cost anywhere near 200-300 bucks either.

Yep! I’ve had the solar-powered watched in the past, by Citizen (Eco-drive) and Casio (G-Shock Tough Solar) and they worked great. Until they didn’t. They just died after a certain point and I couldn’t repair them.
And then there were the mechanical self-winding watches. I’ve owned a handful of them, and I really liked them, but their accuracy was questionable and I moved on to watches with more features.
So yeah, I agree with you. To a point. But this tech is new, and I found it interesting, so I posted it. 🙂
I invested in the original X version of this watch on the Indiegogo campaign… Still waiting. It was supposed to be delivered 6 months ago. So if you are interested… I’d wait until they are actually delivered.

I’m seeing 3.1 out of 5.0 stars. Not great, but not terrible.
I asked them two questions:
When will it ship and from where does it ship on the chat system. Never got a response.
Conspicuously absent from their website is an explanation on how they got around the problems that caused Citizen and Seiko to stop selling body-heat powered watches 20 years ago.
