I’ve been a daily watch wearer for over 30 years now, and one thing I’ve always wished for has been a watch that never needs a new battery (or a recharge, in the case of today’s smartwatches).  The clever folks at Matrix Industries, Inc. may have finally made that dream a reality.  Their MATRIX PowerWatch is the world’s first smartwatch that is powered by your body heat.  How awesome is that?  Not only that, its thermoelectric technology also measures accurate calories burned, activity level (step tracker), and sleep quality—and you won’t have to take it off to charge it overnight.  It even has a power meter to display how much electrical power you are generating, which increases with activity output level.  A PowerWatch App for iOS and Android acts as a data interface with your smartphone.  Currently, there are three PowerWatch products: silver standard version for $199.00, all-black Black Ops version for $239.00, and the PowerWatch X version (with notifications, 200m water resistance and other added features) for $279.00.  Visit MATRIX PowerWatch for more info or to order.

  2. “I’ve always wished for has been a watch that never needs a new battery (or a recharge” This line is sort of inaccurate.

“In 1976, 40 years ago this year, CITIZEN created the world’s first analogue light-powered watch”

Citizen has been making solar powered watches that never need a battery or need to have their batteries recharged for years. I have 3 of them.

    1. I used a Casio solar powered watch for years, until I smashed it by accident. Ran for years…never needed a battery, and didn’t cost anywhere near 200-300 bucks either.

    2. Yep! I’ve had the solar-powered watched in the past, by Citizen (Eco-drive) and Casio (G-Shock Tough Solar) and they worked great. Until they didn’t. They just died after a certain point and I couldn’t repair them.

And then there were the mechanical self-winding watches. I’ve owned a handful of them, and I really liked them, but their accuracy was questionable and I moved on to watches with more features.

So yeah, I agree with you. To a point. But this tech is new, and I found it interesting, so I posted it. 🙂

  3. I invested in the original X version of this watch on the Indiegogo campaign… Still waiting. It was supposed to be delivered 6 months ago. So if you are interested… I’d wait until they are actually delivered.

  4. I asked them two questions:

When will it ship and from where does it ship on the chat system. Never got a response.

  5. Conspicuously absent from their website is an explanation on how they got around the problems that caused Citizen and Seiko to stop selling body-heat powered watches 20 years ago.
