REVIEW – I don’t do well in the heat. Being sweaty and sticky is just the worst! You can put on a jacket if you’re cold, but only so much you can if you’re hot. The Torras COOLiFY iva is a handheld fan with a cooling plate. Does it work?

Design and features
I didn’t know this, but there are dozens, if not hundreds, of handheld rechargeable fans. This one doesn’t look that much different from the outside.
It weighs slightly less than the manufacturer’s claim, coming in at 6-1/4 oz. or 179 g.
Here’s the “business end” of the fan. On the left, the circular metal pad is the cooling element. It’s a thermoelectric cooler, also known as the Peltier effect.
The front side features an LED display, speed controls, and a snowflake button that activates the cooling function. The USB-C charging port and power switch is on the back.
There’s a fold-out snap ring on the bottom that also doubles as a stand. Very clever!
Assembly, Installation, Setup
Charging is straightforward with the included USB cable. The front display shows the percent charge, and a green lightning bolt icon shows that you’re charging.
The +/- buttons control the speed. There are five speeds to choose from: 01, 25, 50, 75, and 100, with 100 being the fastest.
Pressing the snowflake button activates the thermoelectric cooler. A snowflake icon appears above the fan speed.
Performance
A battery-operated fan isn’t much good if it’s not charged. I let the fan run at two extremes: Fan at 100% with the cooler turned on, and the fan at 01% speed without the cooler turned on. Did it come close to TORRAS’ claims?
100% speed with cooling on:
- Claimed: 2 hours
- Measured: 2 hours and 2 minutes
01% speed without cooling:
- Claimed: 12 hours
Measured: 10 hours
Runtimes were pretty much spot on at full blast. Two hours off at the slowest speed.
While testing the runtime, the fan noise pestered me all day. I was used to building gaming PCs with the quietest Noctua fans. Maybe it’s the size and speed.
In my acoustically treated booth, I placed my calibrated measurement mic and set the fan three feet away. As shown below, the fan becomes gradually louder with each speed increase.
I was also interested in the noise profile. Each speed is represented by a colored trace. Lower frequencies are on the left, while higher ones are on the right.
Silent? No. I noticed the fan gets a little more shrill at the higher speeds, as indicated by the spikes the faster the fan blows. But then again, if you’re outside and hot, it probably won’t matter.
I had to test the thermoelectric cooler’s effect, so I pulled out the TOPDON TC004 thermal imaging camera. On the left, the fan isn’t running. The center of my palm measured 80°F. The ambient air around 65°F
With the thermoelectric cooler on for two minutes, the cooling plate dipped nearly 20°F below ambient air. However, the palm of my hand didn’t feel much different than if the fan were off. The palm of my hand FELT cooler, as fans do on a hot day. Note that the space inside the fan has jumped to 83°F
The cooling plate was definitely cooler. When pressed against the skin, it felt refreshingly cool, even if the plate measures just under an inch across.
Final thoughts
It seems apparent that the fan and cooling plate, as designed, doesn’t make as big a difference with blown air as I’d expected. Serious cooling machines use a carefully designed system of heat exchangers. This is just a metal plate. I should have anticipated this, as TORRAS’ own product description states “Touchable Coolness”. I would say that is definitely true: the cooling plate would feel pretty good against your sweaty brow, similar to holding an ice cube against your skin.
What I like about The TORRAS COOLiFY iva

Good review and at $50 it should at least meet your cooling expectations over battery life.
