ASUS ROG DeltaII Headset 13

REVIEW – Full disclosure: I’ve been an Asus fan-person for years now, having owned multiple laptops, video cards, motherboards, and other accessories made by the brand.  However, I’ve never tried an Asus ROG-branded headset yet, and recently my partner commandeered my treasured Logitech Astro A30 Lightspeed Wireless Gaming Headset since it was the only headset I own that doesn’t hurt her head. I loved that Mandalorian-themed headset not just for the looks, but especially for the ability to pair to my PC via 2.4 Ghz wireless while simultaneously being connected via Bluetooth to my phone. This allowed me to play games, chat over discord controlled by my phone, and watch the occasional TikTok during loading screens or downtime. The ASUS ROG Delta II Headset looks like it will do all this and might even offer better sound and microphone quality based on the spec sheet, so I was eager to give them a try!

Design and features

The ASUS ROG Delta II Headset is your typical form factor for a gaming headset, with large over-ear earcups and an adjustable headband for comfort. A cluster of controls on both earcups control your primary device (left earcup) and Bluetooth device (right earcup).

I like most of ASUS’s design choices here, except for the fact that the headset can’t fold smaller for travel (the earcups do swivel to a flat position at least). I don’t take my gaming headsets travelling though (I rely on gaming earbuds if I’m on the go), so it’s not a big deal for me.

Optional Aura Crate App control (Windows)

The Aura Crate Windows app is optional but does give you quite a few settings to tweak on the ASUS ROG Delta II Headset. I don’t have a PlayStation 4 or 5 handy, but ASUS says you can change these settings through a Windows computer, and they will “stick” while using a console. I tested out various EQ settings, and it seems like there’s a wide range of customization to match most user’s preferences, including virtual surround modes for gaming and fully customizable EQ modes in addition to the music presets.

Performance

I was impressed by the audio performance and capabilities of the ASUS ROG Delta II Headset from the first moment I popped them on my head. The headset is comfortable, even for long gaming sessions (though I did switch to the included fabric earcups instead of the leather-like ones to avoid sweaty ears), and I didn’t get any pressure pain on the top of my head or on my ears which has been a problem with some headsets in the past for me.

An audio sweep test (which has to be taken with a grain of salt in my case – loud punk shows in my teen years has left me with mild hearing loss) had even audio from about 30 Hz to 15 kHz, which is probably my entire range of hearing based on many other audio tests I’ve done in the past. ASUS claims frequency response down to 20 Hz and up to 20 kHz. Cheaper headsets often have volume spikes and dropouts on this same frequency test sweep that I always do, the Delta II did not either.

In games, the audio was excellent. Important audio cues are crisp and clear, and the dialogue was better than most headsets I’ve used. Bass is also good by default, and with Bass Boost and/or EQ tweaking it can get very loud if that’s your thing. For general media consumption, the Delta II sounds as good as any of the non-audiophile gear I have at my disposal, with a nicely balanced sound profile by default. In complex music, individual instruments or tracks are clearly audible and don’t get lost in muddled sound.

The microphone is one of the better headset microphones I’ve tested so far. It sounds crisp and clean, and if you add the Asus Armoury Crate Gear enhancements on Windows it completely cuts out noisy background sounds/echo and sounds almost like a professional podcast microphone. If you use the optional secondary Bluetooth connection, the microphone is not as good (which is a Bluetooth limitation), but it’s definitely usable – people in multiplayer games and on Discord said I sounded like I was on a speakerphone but that they could easily understand me the entire time. I love this mode since I could control the communications through my phone (I game with a single ultrawide screen, so switching over to Discord or a browser to change music or channels requires alt-tabbing out of the game). I love that there are two volume spinners that independently control each volume source.

Final thoughts

ASUS ROG DeltaII Headset 14

The ASUS ROG Delta II Headset is easily my current winner for my daily driver headset for gaming (and even for listening to music while I work). I absolutely love the secondary Bluetooth audio (which is always connected to my phone when I’m at my desk), while the primary 2.4 Ghz dongle connected to my gaming laptop provides amazing low-latency sound for gaming and media consumption. The fact that the headset is relatively light and comfortable seals the deal for me, even before adding in my ASUS ROG fandom.

What I like about the ASUS ROG Delta II Headset

  • Great sound
  • Secondary Bluetooth connection option
  • Great microphone
  • Comfortable for long sessions
  • Long battery life

What needs to be improved?

  • Folding more compact for travel would be nice
