REVIEW – Recently I had the opportunity to review SoundPeats PearlClip Pro earbuds and I was pleasantly surprised by the open air format and design. I hadn’t tried them before and initially thought they looked a bit odd. Oddity aside, trying new gadgets is always fun, so I gave them a shot and was pleasantly surprised. Afterwards, SoundPeats approached the Gadgeteer with their Pop Clip earbuds that they recently released and I wanted to see how they compared to the original ones I reviewed. Read on to see how they hold up!

Design and features
The SoundPeats Pop Clip earbuds utilize an open ear design that points the sound towards your ear canal, but it does not rest inside of your ear. This has the benefit of allowing you to listen to audio without blocking everything out. That can be a downside, though, if you are looking to block out sound or do any kind of noise cancellation.
Each of the earbuds are designed the same, so there is no differentiation between left and right and they are interchangeable both on your ears as well as in the charging case. I had several people in the family test the fit and they fit everyone well. The previous model I reviewed was a bit too big for folks with small ears, but these work well.
The loop of these earbuds is made of memory steel, so they can withstand quite a bit of flex. It’s not too hard to clip over your ear and they don’t put a lot of pressure on your ear where they rest.
There is no tap or touch input on these earbuds, which I like. There is a single button on each earbud that you can program via the SoundPeats Audio. By default, one is set to lower the volume and the other is set to raise the volume with a single tap. Double tap of either button will pause or play audio. Triple tap of the button will engage voice controls or Google Gemini in my case on my Android phone.
Setup
Standard earbud Bluetooth connectivity. Open and connect in your Bluetooth settings. If they don’t show up when you open and remove the earbuds from the case, there is a button on the side of the case that you can press and hold to put it into search mode.
Charging is pretty standard via USB-C. When fully charged, the case light shows solid green.
Performance
The only audio problem I’ve had with these earbuds is in loud environments. You can turn the volume up and still hear audio, but due to the open air nature of the earbuds that will be a conflict you may run into. I don’t mind that, though, because it makes me more aware of my environment. Sound quality is good for the price point. Microphone quality in recordings and phone/conference calls is also good.
Final thoughts
These earbuds have really grown on me. One of my pet peeves with in-ear earbuds is that they have the tendency to slip out over time, especially if you’re active and moving around. These earbuds are very solid and move with you. You would be hard pressed to shake or knock these out. Given the design, noise cancellation is not really an option, but I do like having more awareness of what’s going on around me. For jogging or doing things outside, that’s definitely a bonus in my book. There is some discomfort where they rest if you wear them for a very long extended period of time, but that’s after hours of wear, so no real surprise.
What I like about the SoundPeats Pop Clip Earbuds
- Fits comfortably over the ear and fits more ear sizes than the previously reviewed model
- Open air design
- They don’t fall off! No constant adjustment necessary!
What needs to be improved?
- Nothing

I like how these look. I have a bit of a silicone allergy and get ear infections with in-ear buds. I tried the Bose clip ons and loved them, but they just didn’t get LOUD enough. Is that an issue on these at all? Cheap if they work!!!
They are plenty loud as long as you’re not in a noisy environment. Probably not something to wear while mowing the lawn, but for most other stuff they’re great. I really like wearing them for conference calls at work.
