Design and features

The JSAUX MagCool OmniGrip is pretty compact for its features. It’s made of black plastic and has a built-in MagSafe connector on the top. Newer iPhones have built-in MagSafe, which makes this grip really convenient compared to the spring clips many other grips offer.

If your phone doesn’t have MagSafe, that’s okay. JSAUX includes a MagSafe sticker that you can add to your existing phone or phone case.

The JSAUX MagCool OmniGrip folds in half for easy storage and transport.

From the image above, you can see that one side of the OmniGrip has two USB-C ports. One of the ports is for charging the OmniGrip’s built-in 6000mAh battery (and pass-through charging to the phone if you connect the grip to external power), and the other is the data port for connecting the grip to the phone for access to the optional M.2 SSD slot (in the handle).

The other side of the handle (not shown) has a 3.5mm TRRS port for connecting a microphone to your phone for external audio recording. A TRRS cable is not included.

The OmniGrip unfolds to a length of 11.25 inches. When unfolded, you’ll see three control buttons. The large button is the capture button and the smaller buttons control the ring light and the fan.

However, you can adjust the angle and even use the grip as a desk stand. The bottom of the handle has a threaded 1/4″ socket for a tripod, in case you want to mount it for even more flexibility.

I tested the JSAUX MagCool OmniGrip with my iPhone 16 Pro Max and found the MagSafe connection to be really strong. The MagSafe mount also has a built-in fan to help keep the phone cool. The fan is whisper quiet.

Another feature of the OmniGrip is the built-in ring light that has 3 lighting modes – Cold, Daytime, and Warm.

You can even attach a microphone to the JSAUX MagCool OmniGrip. Two different sized clips are included in the package. If you plan to use an external microphone, you’ll need to connect it to the grip using a TRRS audio cable (not included) and then connect the OmniGrip to your phone using a USB-C cable.

Last but not least, the OmniGrip also has a built-in M.2 SSD slot that is compatible with up to 1TB SSDs. The SSD is not included and is something you’ll need to buy yourself. The MagCool OmniGrip supports 2230, 2240, and 2280 SSDs.

The only SSD that I had on hand was actually a 2TB stick, but I tried it anyway, even though the documentation with the OmniGrip said that it was only able to be used with 1TB sticks. After several failures, I got it working when I figured out that I had to connect the OmniGrip to power. Once I did that, with the iPhone also connected to the OmniGrip, the SDD showed up in the iPhone’s Files app. Reading through the FAQ for the OmniGrip on JSAUX’s site, I found where a recommendation to use low-power SSDs like a 2230 and that if you don’t use a low-power stick, you need to plug the grip into power. After I did that, it showed up, and as soon as I unplugged the USB-C (power) cable, the drive disappeared.

This is an important caveat because if you have to be tethered to power in order to use the SSD feature, it makes this accessory less appealing. So make sure you use the right SDD with the OmniGrip.

Final thoughts

Using the OmniGrip is really no different than using other selfie sticks. The grip is comfortable even though it’s made of hard plastic. As long as you realize that this handle will not self-adjust like a gimbal, it works fine with the latest phones that already have image stabilization features.

Where the OmniGrip shines is all the little extras that are built into it. While most of the extra features like the MagSafe mount, fan, light, and microphone hookup are nice, the added benefit of adding an SSD to the handle makes this an all-in-one accessory, an extremely handy gadget for content creators or anyone who enjoys using their phone to capture video. The price is nice too.

What I like about the JSAUX MagCool OmniGrip

  • Built-in SSD slot, light, microphone connection, and fan
  • Folds
  • MagSafe mount

What needs to be improved?

  • May require power depending on the type of SSD being used
