With Tivo Premiere, your mom can replace her cable box and have access to cable programming and much more. In addition to movies on cable premium channels, the Tivo Premiere lets you download from Netflix, Blockbuster On Demand and Amazon Video On Demand – even videos on YouTube. You can playback photo or video montages from websites like Picasa, Photobucket, or One True Media, or you can listen to music from Rhapsody or Live365. Pandora will be added in the next few months. With a broadband connection, you can access HD movies and TV shows. With the Tivo Premiere, the 320 GB hard disk allows you to store up to 45 hours of HD programming or 400 hours of standard-definition programming. The Tivo Premiere XL has a 1 terabyte hard disk (and expanded features); it allows you to store up to 150 hours of HD or 1350 hours of standard-def programming. I LOVE TiVo. I was sad to give it up for HD TV years ago, but the Premiere is tempting me back. One caveat: If it is a gift you probably want to buy the Lifetime Subscription, and it is $399. Otherwise you are giving a gift that is going to require the recipient to spend more money. They also have a 3-year for $299 and Annual for $129. We have a series 2 to my folks a number of Christmas’ ago and they still love it.
One last detail, the XL is not just a bigger hard drive, the expanded features are a backlit remote and THX-certified audio. For a lot of folks that is a bigger deal than the hard drive.
