I hope everyone is having a nice weekend so far. The weather here has been pretty icky, so it’s been a nice day to just stay inside surfing on the net and watching TV. I went crazy on Friday and ordered a 24″ iMac with all the trimmings (except 3gb of RAM, I settled for

This morning at 5:30, I was awakened by a call from Steve telling me that Sarah had shaved several seconds off her events at her just completed varsity swimming time trials! I hate that I missed them, but talking to Steve and then Sarah made it almost as good as being there. Yay Sarah, I

The first time I ever saw a picture of the iCarta (from Atech Flash Technology), I thought it had to be a joke. Who would make an iPod speaker system that doubled as a toilet paper holder? The date on my calendar did not say April Fools day though, so this was actually a real honest to goodness new iPod accessory. Now in addition to having an iPod in your pocket, in your office and in your living room, you can also have one in the bathroom. The iCarta box says that it will enhance your experience. Ok, I won’t go there…

Well, I arrived in Phuket Thursday morning without any trouble; other than the handful of soldiers which I saw at the airport exit, there was no indication that anything out of the ordinary was happening in Thailand. After an hour’s ride from the airport in a chauffeured Toyota Highlander, I arrived at the Mövenpick Resort

Every decade or so, there comes certain fashions, foods, oreven
dances (remember the Macarena!) that transcend international
boundaries and becomes popular just about everywhere on the planet.
I would put sudoku in that category. Just in case you’ve been
living under a rock, sudoku has done just that by becoming popular
with the crossword puzzle crowd to dominate every bookstore shelf,
grace the pages of many newspapers and periodicals and of course,
the thousands of fan web sites around the world devoted to the
game.

Unlike yesterday’s aborted journey, today my trip to Phuket started without a hitch. I flew to Dallas, and as I ate lunch in an airport restaurant, I caught up on the email and text messages I’d missed during the previous hour’s flight. As I read, a message from Julie caught my eye, “Hey I just

I had a great opportunity to review the Power Support
5G iPod Film Set (for Judie at the Gadgeteer),
and I must say that I am happy that I did. I have used all manner of film protectors over the years on devices
including Palm handheld devices, phones, watches, cameras, laptops, micro PCs, and iPods. I am serious when I
say that these films offer the most invisible look, highest scratch resistance, ease of installation, and even
increased the tactile experience of the iPod.

Earlier this year, I reviewed the Audioengine 5 Speaker System and was totally blown away by the wonderful sound they produced. This was the first higher end iPod speaker system that I had the opportunity to review and I immediately understood that when it comes to speaker systems, you definitely get what you pay for. In the months that have followed the review, I have continued to enjoy the Audioengine’s. But you know me, I’m always on the look out for something better, so when GINI Systems sent me information regarding their vacuum tube based iTube and iConec iPod speaker bundle, I knew I had to test it out.

One of my regularly watched television shows is the Discovery Channel’s It Takes a Thief. The point of the show is to demonstrate how easy it is for a thief to break into someone’s house and steal everything with any value; the show aims to educate people on better ways to protect themselves from being a victim. On one of last season’s episodes, they featured a grandmother who had transferred all of her family photos and documents to her computer’s hard drive. During the course of that particular show’s staged robbery, the thief emptied the grandmother’s silver drawer, jewelry box and medicine cabinet, and then he picked up her computer tower and casually carried it out the door. Had the robbery been real, all of her carefully collected family photos and documents would have been gone forever. Even though the “victim” knew she would be getting all of her possessions back at the end of the show, I still couldn’t help but feel sorry for her as she agonized over the idea of losing her digital treasures.
