NEWS – TECNO just announced the POVA Curve 2 5G in Hong Kong, and the pitch is simple. An 8000mAh battery inside a phone that measures 7.42mm thin and weighs 195 grams. That is a large battery for a device that does not look or read like a rugged brick.
Big battery phones usually make a visual trade. You get endurance, but you carry the bulk. TECNO is clearly trying to remove that compromise here.
The battery story is the headline
The 8000mAh cell is the largest in the POVA series so far. TECNO says it is 2500mAh larger than the previous generation, and it pairs that with 45W charging and bypass charging. Bypass charging routes power directly to the system during heavy use, which helps manage heat during long gaming or streaming sessions.
They are also claiming TÜV SÜD certification for long battery life and up to six years of durability, with operation between negative 20 and 60 degrees Celsius. Those are confident numbers. We will need real world testing to see how that holds up, but the intent is clear. This phone is being positioned as a long term daily device, not something built around a one year cycle.

Underneath it all sits a MediaTek Dimensity 7100 5G processor and a 144Hz curved AMOLED display. That combination suggests TECNO is targeting smooth everyday performance rather than chasing flagship benchmark headlines.
Slim design without pretending to be delicate
At 7.42mm and 195 grams, this is where the real engineering flex lives. Once you cross 6000mAh, most phones start gaining noticeable thickness. TECNO says it avoided that here.
The POVA Curve 2 5G comes in Melting Silver, Storm Titanium, and Mystic Purple, and carries IP64 dust and water resistance, SGS certified 1.5 meter drop protection, and Gorilla Glass 7i on the front. Instead of simply saying it is durable, TECNO is pointing to specific certifications, which is always better than vague claims.
Offline communication is the wildcard
One feature that stands out is offline communication support. TECNO says the phone can send voice messages, text, and images to compatible devices up to 1.5 kilometers away in open areas without cellular or Wi Fi.
In ideal conditions that range is impressive. In real conditions it will likely vary, but even partial reliability could make this useful at large events, during travel, or in areas with unstable service. It is not something we normally see emphasized in this segment.
TECNO also includes dual signal enhancement chipsets designed to improve cellular and Wi Fi reception in weak or crowded environments. That fits the broader theme here. The POVA Curve 2 5G is being framed as a phone that keeps working when your day gets messy.
HiOS 16 and practical AI
The device runs HiOS 16 with built in AI tools for content summarization, writing assistance, background noise reduction during calls, and automatic photo enhancement. Two named features are One tap FlashMemo, which captures and summarizes on screen content, and Mind Hub, which organizes AI generated notes and saved information.
Ella Assistant handles broader voice interactions, and TECNO also mentions region specific AI powered prayer reminders. None of this is positioned as experimental. It is presented as system level support meant to simplify everyday tasks rather than redefine them.
TECNO is promising two major Android OS upgrades as well, reinforcing the longevity angle.

What matters now
The POVA Curve 2 5G launches in India in February 2026, with pricing to be announced locally. It will also be showcased at MWC 2026, and The Gadgeteer will be on the ground in Barcelona. Stay tuned for our hands on coverage and first impressions straight from the show floor.
On paper, the combination of 8000mAh, 7.42mm thickness, and 195 grams is the story. If TECNO prices this aggressively, it could stand out in a crowded midrange field. If the price drifts too high, the battery advantage becomes less compelling.
For now, this is TECNO staking a claim around endurance without bulk. The real test will be how that promise holds up once units are
