REVIEW – My son just turned 11. And like most kids these days, he’s way more interested in gadgets than he is about going outside. When the offer of an electric scooter for kids came available, I jumped at the opportunity. The iScooter IK3 electric scooter for kids has been awesome for getting my kids outside and trying new things.

Design and features
The iScooter has some really fun features for kids. Honestly, it feels like they took a bigger scooter and just shrunk it. There are three drive settings. E, N, and S are visible on the little screen that tells you how fast you are going and what mode you are in. It also tells you how much battery life is left. I told the kids that E stands for Eco and easy, so it’s the slowest. This mode can go up to 3 miles per hour. Considering most people walk about three or four mph, this mode feels really slow. Normal mode can go up to six mph. Speed mode can go up to 10 mph.
For kids just learning to ride and getting acquainted with the scooter, these are great starting speeds. I know I wouldn’t be able to keep up with my kids if they were going any faster than 10 mph.
There are two ways to brake. There is a lever on the left handle that is red and as you press down the brakes engage. The other way to brake is the original foot brake. Pressing your heel down on the cover piece to the back tire slows down the scooter. The right handle has the acceleration. Pressing the power button will turn on the scooter. Double tapping the power button will change which mode you are on. There is also a fun light that runs along the bottom of the scooter and changes colors. Turning on the lights is a button that is right next to the power.
There is a small amount of assembly for the scooter. The main handlebars are separate, but the cable that connects everything is still attached. So be careful pulling everything out of the box. The two pieces connect easily, just remember to loosen the screws that are at the bottom of the top piece you are connecting. There is a little tab button that can adjust the height. After you tighten the screws, there are a couple of clips that you place the cable through to keep everything safe and neat.
A kickstand comes separately in the box, and is easy to misplace or overlook. It just has two screws, and the holes are already predrilled into the frame of the scooter.
The fastest speed is around 10 miles per hour. It may not be enough speed for a lot of people, but I feel like it is a decent speed for kids. The amount of speed and battery life also affect each other. If the battery is running low, the scooter doesn’t go as fast.
The charging cable and port are magnetic. The port also has a flap that covers it when it isn’t charging to keep dirt and other stuff from clogging the area. I have heard stories about the iScooter and people plugging it in for too long, or in the wrong place, or whatever they might’ve been doing, but they said it caught fire. So in an abundance of caution, we charge the scooter outside and charge it for no longer than 24 hours.
I wish there was a way to collapse the frame to pack easier. We have the old razor scooters and they have a lever to push that folds it in half. Something like that would be awesome. The scooter itself isn’t super heavy, and runs smoothly. The wheels are a hard rubber that makes all the rocks and dips very noticeable. My son said he was nervous that he was going to hit a rock and crash. He also said that his hands felt like they were vibrating from feeling every bump on the road.
Final thoughts
The iScooter IK3 scooter has a lot of great features for kids ages 6-12 that are ready for the next level. There are nice lights along the bottom that keep you more visible in the dark, and look really cool also. There are two breaking systems, and three speed settings. I think kids on the younger side of the scale would enjoy this a little more. As they get older they just want to go faster and ride longer. This is a great starter scooter for anyone who wants to get their kids outside.
What I like about the iScooter IK3 electric scooter for kids
- 3 speed settings
- Easy assembly
- Lightweight
- Two breaking systems
- Cool lights along the bottom for visibility and safety
- Easy buttons
- Magnetic charging port with flap to keep clean
What needs to be improved?
- Wish it could fold to pack easier
- Every bump and rock can be felt while driving
- Don’t leave it plugged in for more than 24 hours for safety reasons.
