REVIEW – Can we talk theme parks for a second? You may wonder what this has to do with a neck-worn fan, but hear me out. I live in Central Florida—home of Disney World and Universal Studios—and summer is coming. What that means in Florida is H.U.M.I.D.I.T.Y. along with heat. The only creatures that enjoy summer in Florida are bugs and giant man-eating reptiles, known as gators. In Florida, you are not at the head of the food chain, but I digress. During the summer, millions flock to the theme parks, having no idea how miserable the heat can be. We natives depend on air conditioning to survive the summer months. However, AC is just not available when you’re walking around outside—or is it? TORRAS says that there is the answer.

What is it?
The TORRAS COOLiFY Air Personal Air Conditioner is a portable AC unit with a built-in fan that’s worn around the neck. Cool air is directed upwards toward the ears and downwards toward the neck, giving the sensation of a cool breeze around the face.
The U-Shaped COOLiFY Air wraps around the back of the neck. The sides are adjustable from a tight fit to a looser fit, providing a more distributed air movement.
At the back of the Air is what TORRAS calls a “cooling plate”. This oversized plate cools quickly as it rests on the back of the neck. It’s a bit like holding a cold soft-drink can against the skin. Along with the cooling plate, a row of cooling air ports (blowing up and down) align both sides the length of the Air.
There are 3 buttons (and a USB-C charging port) on the right side: Power/Cool/Heat. Each can be easily operated while wearing and without looking.
The COOLiFY Air’s 5000 mAh battery takes about 1-2 hours to fully charge. How many hours the Air lasts is dependent on the mode and power level. Usage can range from 4 hours – 24 hours.

Design and features
Back to the theme park intro, the main question I had about the COOLiFY Air was if it would work in a hot, humid environment like Florida’s. Granted, it’s May, so the full humidity+heat impact hasn’t hit yet, but we are getting an early taste, and my wife and I can feel it while outdoors. We’ve both discovered some interesting facts about using the Air.
The COOLiFY Air weight is slightly over .8lbs. While that’s not feather-weight, the weight is spread evenly across the Air, making it quite comfortable to wear.
Operating the Air is as easy as it gets. I didn’t even need to look at the manual to figure out how the buttons operate, although had I bothered to read the manual, I would have instantly understood it could have been even easier. Oh, well.
Each button has three presses. The On button also controls fan speeds. When ON is pressed once, the slow fan speed starts as well. Press again to increase the speed and press again for max speed. One more press turns the Air off.
The Cool button (with a backlit blue snowflake icon) has three presses—each one cooler than the previous. Plus, the cooler the setting, the brighter the glow. A fourth press turns off cooling so just the fan is running.
The Heat button operates the same, except it goes from warm to hot as the buttons are cycled. And no, I’m not walking around Florida in May with a hot neck heater.
Perhaps the most unique—and cool (pun intended) part of the COOLiFY Air is the cooling plate. This operates independently from the fans. It made me wonder if a larger neck plate could be made. It feels like my body likes the cooling plate almost as much as the fans themselves.
The sides of the COOLiFY Air can spread a total of 120° from tight to loose. I prefer the tighter fit because the air is closer to my neck and the noise level is more manageable, which is counterintuitive. When the Air is spread out, I can feel the AC blowing my hair and ears more, plus it’s louder. The good news is that anyone should be able to find a comfortable angle of spread.
Speaking of noise, moving air makes noise. There’s no way to avoid it. TORRAS states the noise level maxes out at 31dB, but being so close to my ears, it sounded louder, especially at high fan levels. Despite it being louder, the noise didn’t bother me all that much. The noise did, however, bug my wife, but it bothered her less the longer she wore it.
How long a fully-charged Air lasts depends greatly on how it’s used. Charging time is up to 3-4 hours for a 100% charge. Using the fan setting only can blow air (no AC) a full 24 hours, but if the AC and fans are all on max, usage will drop to 4-6 hours. This means a happy medium needs to be reached for maximum enjoyment—unless it’s Florida in July.
Final thoughts
Although the TORRAS COOLiFY Air personal air conditioner may not be the only solution for the heat and humidity in Florida, it certainly provides a welcome relief for our stifling dog days of summer. The Air could be an even better solution for those who live in less brutal weather. Either way, we win.
