REVIEW – Over the past 4 years, I have worked on and completed more projects around the home than I can remember. Some were small projects and others were bigger projects like rebuilding my deck and deck rails, building a gym and workshop in my garage, and remodeling my basement, including a laundry room, a utility room, and a media room with a bar. All of these projects require taking several measurements and often taking the same measurements multiple times because, by the time I got over to the saw, I forgot what the measurements were. I think this Mileseey Xtape1 modular digital laser tape measure will be a helpful addition to my toolbox.

Performance
The MILESEEY XTape1 Digital Tape Measure is a next-level option above my traditional tape measures. Its design includes a 12-foot retractable tape measure with a laser rangefinder capable of measuring distances up to 330 feet. This means that when my longest 35ft tape measure ends, this can continue without effort and without the need to add lengths to reach a final measurement. This hybrid design allows me to conduct both short-range and long-range measurements with ease, eliminating the need for multiple tools/measurements.
So far, all my test result comparisons have been accurate. Additionally, XTape1 provides multiple options for measurement including single length, continuous, area, volume, point-to-point, and indirect height and length calculations. Its adjustable laser provides the option for three reference points (front, center, rear), and its 2-inch IPS display is clear and visible in all lighting conditions. It has an IP54 rating and a built-in USB-C rechargeable battery that provides up to 7 hours of continuous use.
As shown below, there is a limit to how close it can be to the measurement surface.
I find that for most of my building needs, using the rear works because I can place the tape measure on one surface and point to the other to get my measurements. I am using the rear reference for all of the examples below.
The photo below compares a 12-inch measurement on a standard mechanical tape measure and the 1ft measurement shown on the display. It is accurate.
The photo below compares an 18-inch measurement on a standard mechanical tape measure and the 1ft 6″ measurement shown on the display. It is accurate.
This next photo compares the Xtape1, which is a built-in tape measure, and my standalone tape measure. Once again, measuring from the back of the unit, it is accurate at 5ft 8 in.
The Xtape1 also has built-in lasers for measuring and leveling.
The Xtape1 uses the Smart Life App to record measurements in several ways. There is a built-in Bluetooth connection on the device that you must turn on to pair with the app. The following video shows the pairing process:
App:
The app pairs quickly. The functionality in the app is helpful including the ability to draw and photograph spaces, record the required measurements, and keep them in memory on your phone. The following are some screenshots from the app:
Final thoughts
The Mileseey Xtape modular digital laser tape measure is a great addition to my toolbox. While I have not yet needed to try all of the ways it can measure, I have found the straight measurements that I need to be accurate and the ability to not only store them but to draw a floor plan or take a photo of the space and mark it up is fantastic.
