astropad

Early last year we told you about Astropad, the software that turns your iPad into a drawing tablet for your Mac and Adobe Photoshop. Now they have released Astropad 2.0 that supports the iPad Pro and Pencil. Astropad 2.0 offers improved performance and features that elevate the drawing experience to the level that some artists might find that they no longer need to use a Wacom drawing tablet for their artwork.

High-performance Liquid upgrade: Powered by Liquid core technology, now running three times faster with massively reduced pixelation
New Velocity control: Analyzes network conditions dozens of times per second to balance image quality and latency
Refined pressure curve: Hand-tuned by artists for a more natural drawing feel
Enhanced software compatibility: Supports panning and zooming gestures across more programs

Astropad 2.0 is a free update for existing users and is priced at $29.99 on the iTunes App Store. For more info visit astropad.com

  2. Seriously you people who writes these articles… You do know that the Astropad Ipad + Mac combo is only optimized for Photoshop and performs pretty poorly on other software such as Clip Studio, Zbrush etc…? I’m sure the devs one day will try to perfect it for other desktop softwares too but they’re a two man team so it’s not going to anytime soon. Before that, no way one is going to ditch WACOM if you’re not a Photoshop user.

    1. This is not really an article or review, just a snippit of something neat. It may very well be the exact thing someone is looking for. It’s also significantly cheaper than a WACOM if you already own the other devices.

And lets be honest. Somebody that utilizes a WACOM already is savvy enough to know that they do or do not need for their uses. The average Joe/Jane does not just buy a WACOM on a spur, it’s something that is researched prior to purchase.

    Wacom.

Not all designers and artists use Macs, even if the app worked well with more than just Photoshop.
