Design and features

I love this desk. I have been trying to figure out ways that I can increase my steps and become more active. You would think that with six children I would have an endless supply of things that keep me moving. Yet, at the end of the day I still feel like I failed at so many things. I have my priorities and make sure to get the most important ones taken care of, but what happens during the rest of the time? How do I lose so much time, but can’t lose any of the pounds? Maybe multitasking with this desk can help solve both questions.

The OHWILL L-Shaped electric standing desk can hold up to 176 pounds, and has a spacious surface area to hold plenty of things that will continuously impress even the most staunch of work loads. I was a bit nervous when I set up this desk. I had shelves and other things on my last desk to make more space for all the random items. This desk is so simple. It’s 71 inches wide. I can fit both my monitors, and my laptop, with room to spare. I think the nicest part is that it is a good 28 inches deep. Normal kitchen counters are 24 inches deep if that helps you get a visual on how spacious this desk feels. I had to really Tetris my mouse and keyboard on the previous setup. I have room all around the monitors that I can add trinkets, or sticky notes, or markers, or notes that my kids need me to sign, or a plethora of other things, and I still don’t feel as crowded as I did before. The L shape of the desk is such a great bonus. It extends an extra 15 inches for a total of 43 inches.

Another feature I like about this desk is the back corner actually goes all the way to the back instead of cutting the corner. All the corners are rounded. This may not seem like much, but it has saved me more grief than I care to admit. No more getting hurt on the corners here.

The main feature of this desk is that it has the ability to raise and lower. I love that I can program it to be a height that is for me. I can just push a button and it’s ready for me. Same with sitting down. I was worried that I would never want to be at my desk because I had to be standing, but the programmable buttons are easy and amazing. I feel that I waste a lot less time on my computer when I am standing, even without the addition of an under desk exercise apparatus.

This desk is whisper quiet! It really doesn’t make much noise at all when it moves up or down. I think that the most noise from the transitions come from my cords that rub against the wall. The top height is 46 inches, and the lowest is 28. When you first plug in and turn on the desk it does a calibration that goes all the way up, waits five seconds, and then makes its way back to the bottom. At that point it’s ready to use. Programming the stand and sit buttons are done by simply holding the coordinating button for five seconds after you are at the desired height. Another nice thing is that the desk remembers the settings even after the power has turned off and back on.

Just be careful! I don’t think this desk will stop if it comes in contact with external forces. I have a shelf above my desk and my monitors would definitely run into this shelf at the full height. I didn’t want to test out which object would win that fight. Because the desk says that it can hold up to 176 pounds, I feel that my monitors would be hurt a lot more than the desk or the shelf. So be cautious with where things are placed. If there’s nothing on your walls, you probably have nothing to worry about.

Assembly, installation, and setup

This package is heavy. I had to awkwardly push the box into the house. Everything pretty much comes pre assembled, so there isn’t too much to worry about, and I was able to assemble everything on my own, but needed help to flip it over once it was finished.

The base is super simple. There are basically four pieces to put together. The leg units are heavy. The package as a whole weighs around 76 pounds. So each leg must weigh at least 25 pounds. The leg units connect to a rail that goes across the top, front and back, and that’s pretty much all you need to put together. The top of the desk comes in two pieces, and is connected in three locations along the seam. Once the top is connected together, you place the base upside down, line up the holes, and you’re 95 percent done. Easy Peasy. The last steps you need to take are just some cord management for the motor. Also included is a cupholder and a hook that I’m sure is meant for headphones. If you want to add those, there are a couple screws to secure them. No drills are needed! The holes are already placed, and the material is very soft.

Final thoughts

Multitasking is worth every penny. If I can get in a couple more steps while trying to figure out emails or school items, I am more than excited. The L shape fits in my smaller house, but also provides more space than you realize. It is heavy duty, and I don’t feel like I need to be careful or things will collapse. I don’t have the energy or patience to have a delicate desk. I need it rugged and durable. This desk provides all of that and more. I love this desk and hope to use it for many years to come.

What I like about the OHWILL L-Shaped electric desk

  • Heavy duty
  • Easy to assemble
  • Rounded corners
  • Programmable height settings
  • Spacious surface
  • Whisper quiet

What needs to be improved?

  • Moving from one room to another is a bit awkward and difficult
  • It would be fun to be able to program multiple people settings, so both my husband and I could have a different setting.
