Design and features
The Chargeasap Connect Pro cable will be available in black and gunmetal. The red version in the images in this review is a media sample and may or may not be a color that will be available after the campaign ends.
The 1.2 meter long (3 ft 11 in) cable features a smooth braided covering, a USB-C connector on one end, and a magnetic connection on the opposite end with an inline white-on-black LCD wattage display.
To use the Chargeasap Connect Pro cable, you’ll need one of the magnetic tips. The tips include USB-C, Lightning, and micro USB. You can specify which tip you want when you pledge for this cable on Kickstarter.
The tips have an 11-pin design with neodymium magnets for a very strong connection to the cable.
The cable connection is slightly recessed, which helps prevent accidental disconnections but still allows for disconnections in the event of a snag when tripping over a cable.
This is how the tip looks when it’s connected to the end of the Connect Pro cable. You wouldn’t even guess that it’s something special.
I tested the Chargeasap Connect Pro 100W Magnetic Charging Cable with my iPhone 15 Pro Max which has a USB-C connector. The USB-C tip from Chargeasap was easy to insert and took a little effort to remove which is a good thing. As you can see, it doesn’t add much bulk to your phone and is small enough that it should work with most cases.
The magnetic connection between the end of the cable and the charging tip is so strong that the cable almost leaps to the tip when it gets close.
There’s a small LED built into the end of the cable that glows green when the device is connected and drawing power/charging. Too bad it wouldn’t turn off when charging ends.
Android phones, and even my 14-inch M3 MacBook Pro.
From Chargeasap:
Charge a Macbook at full speed: With 100W Power Delivery 3.0 PPS, this magnetic cable can fast chargeyour laptop, perfect for devices such as the MacBook Pro 16″. The Connect Pro cable matches the maximum charging speed of the original Apple USB-C cable.
Lightning fast charging for Apple devices: Connect Pro is the world’s first magnetic cable to fully support 27W Apple Fast charging for Lightning devices like the iPhone 14 series and earlier models. Charge your iPhone at maximum speed, reducing the iPhone 14 Pro Max charging time from empty to full in just about 1 hour and 30 minutes. Overcoming Apple chip restrictions, this achievement marks a significant milestone that earlier magnetic cables couldn’t achieve. We’re proud to lead as the first magnetic cable capable of supporting both Apple iPhone 14 and 15 max charging speeds.
I also used the cable to charge up my Logitech MX Master 3S mouse and may end up keeping one cable for that task and charging my Keychron Q1 HE keyboard.
If the magnetic tip feature were the only thing good about the Chargeasap Connect Pro 100W Magnetic Charging Cable, I would be perfectly happy. I like that I can have one cable that will charge my iPhone.
But the Chargeasap Connect Pro 100W Magnetic Charging Cable has another trick (feature) up its sleeve (cable), and that’s the built-in LCD that shows a real-time view of the power output in watts.
The only downside of this feature is that the display is located about 8 inches from the end of the cable that plugs into the power adapter. I think the display should be on the other end of the cable near the magnetic/tip side so that it’s easier to see it. Many people might have the cable plugged into a wall outlet under a desk which would make the display completely out of sight.
When Chargeasap saw my comment about the location of the display, they replied with this reason:
We read in your article that you were disappointed the display wasn’t on the magnetic end of the cable. We wanted to clarify that our earliest samples did have the display there, but we found that the additional weight caused the magnetic connection to disconnect easily. That’s why we had to move it to the other end. We hope this clears that up for you.
What I like about the Chargeasap Connect Pro 100W Magnetic Charging Cable
- Well-made strong braided cable
- USB-C, Lightning, and micro USB tips are available
- Supports up to 100 W charging and fast charging for iPhones
- Built-in wattage display
- Great for travel
What needs to be improved?
- Move the built-in display to the other end of the cable
- Change the status LED in the cable to turn red or off when charging finishes
Final thoughts
USB charging cables are not usually very exciting to write about, but Chargeasap Connect Pro 100W Magnetic Charging Cable is different. I can imagine taking this one cable with me when I travel. It would make things a lot easier and streamlined to have one cable and multiple tips for all of my devices. It gets an enthusiastic thumbs up from me!
