REVIEW – My office is lit by a cluster of three LED light bulbs mounted behind frosted glass in a ceiling fan.  There is no way I would want to get rid of the ceiling fan, but the light it produces is not the best when I want to read or write on my desktop.  My head will throw a shadow over the desk where I usually want to work.  I have two 27-inch monitors mounted with a single mount on the desk.  I need a light that can light up my work area but not get in the way of both monitors.  It seems like the Neoglint Dual Head Desk Lamp was made for my situation.  Let’s see if it makes the cut.

What is it?

The Neoglint Desk lamp is a dual-head desk lamp that mounts to your desk with a clamp.  It is very adjustable, including having the ability to adjust each head on the lamp independently of the other.

What’s in the box?

  • 1 Neoglint Desk lamp
  • 1 clamp to mount it on the desk
  • User manual

Hardware specs

  • 28 inches wide
  • 120 high-quality LEDs
  • up to 2200 lumens
  • three types of lighting – white/warm white/natural white
  • ten levels of dimming
  • power off memory function
  • desk mount handles a surface less than 2.4 inches
  • it needs at least a 2 amp power adapter

Setup

First, I ensured I could insert the Neoglint Desk lamp’s base into the clamp.  It was simple.  The lamp had a pole extending from the bottom that I inserted into the clamp and tightened the knob.  However, the back of my desk is very cluttered with the big monitor mount clamped to the desk, my routers, and the docking station.  I had to remove the lamp and ensure the clamp could find a good spot to be mounted.

Optimally, you would want to mount the clamp directly between the two monitors.  I had the huge monitor mount in that position.  So I placed the clamp for the light just to the left of the monitor mount.

Did I mention how much stuff I have behind the monitors?  In the picture below, you can see underneath the desk where the clamp mounts.  The light clamp is the closest one with the large silver rod to tighten the clamp.  The clamp behind it is for the monitor mount.

I then inserted the Neoglint Desk lamp into the clamp base.  The light is very adjustable.y There are a total of five knobs on it.

  1. On the main arm where it first pivots from the top of the base.  That one is about halfway up the picture.
  2. One on top of the arm allows the entire head of the lamp to pivot up or down.
  3. One on top of the head allows both heads to swivel together left or right.
  4. One on the top of each head for a total of two knobs that allow you to swivel each head forward or backward independently of the other.

Finally, each lamp head can rotate 360 degrees.

The Neoglint Desk lamp comes with a control module mounted inline from the power cord.  It has a plus button to increase the light, a minus button to decrease the light, a button to change the lighting mode, and an on/off button.

When the Neoglint Desk lamp is plugged in with enough power, the power button will light up like before.  Even though the power button may light up, that does not indicate that the light has enough power coming to it.   If you noticed in the first pictures of this review, this light only has a USB port at the end of the power cable.  It did not come with a power adapter.  The manual and website say it needs at least two amps.  I tried two ports on my docking station to power it up.  One port did not have enough power to light up the power light.  The second port lit it up, but when I tried to turn on the light, it came on briefly and then shut off.  After trying three times, I got a warning from Windows saying I had a power surge on my dock because something was trying to draw too much power!

This is where I was getting a bit frustrated.  I would have to plug it in to get enough power to the lamp.  My main complaint about the Neoglint Desk lamp is that the in-line controller is too close to the lamp.  If I were to plug it in on the wall, I would not be able to access the controller easily at all.   That was when I came up with the idea to use a smart plug, so I could use Alexa to turn the light off and on.  I first plugged the USB end of the cord into a power adapter (from an old Samsung phone), and then that adapter went into the smart plug.  Since the lamp has onboard memory, it always remembers my last setting.

Then I remembered that since this was a standing desk, I had installed outlets under the desk to plug in the various items on the desktop.  One of the plugs had USB ports in it.   Problem solved!

Performance

Even though I could not mount the Neoglint Desk lamp directly between my two monitors, its adjustability made that no issue.  I could tweak the arm and head into the exact position I wanted.  I was able to achieve the full desk coverage I desired.  I stayed with the standard white color at maximum brightness.  You can’t see it in the picture, but the controller is back and to the right of the little white potted plants between the monitors.  I can easily reach back there to turn the light on, though I wish the cord were longer to bring it forward.

What I like

  • Extremely adjustable
  • Three light types to choose from
  • Bright enough for my needs.
  • Great price

What I’d change

  • Include a power adapter
  • Make the power cord longer so the controller can be placed in a good location.

Final thoughts

If your desk allows for a clamping light and you need adjustability in that light, then the Neoglint Desk lamp may be the lamp for you.  I am very happy with it; it now has a permanent position on my home desk.  For the price, you can’t beat it!
