REVIEW – I want to see a show of hands, how many of you love leather AND pens AND notebooks? Then here is a wonderful accessory to add to your collection of stationery storage gear. It’s the zippered leather 10-slot pen case from Galen Leather Co. Let’s check it out.
What is it?
The zippered leather 10-slot pen case from Galen Leather Co. is exactly what its name implies. It’s a zippered case made of 100% vegetable tanned cow leather that is designed to hold 1o pens and an A5-sized notebook.
Design and features
This pen / A5 notebook case is 7.3 x 9.2 inches (18.5 x 23.5 cm) and made of hand-stitched full-grain leather and is available in Crazy Horse brown like the one you see above, or in Crazy Horse Forest Green. The leather has a matte finish and picks up marks and scratches quite easily. If you’re a perfectionist, you might not like that, but if you like the look of rugged and well-worn leather gear, you’ll love this case.
The only branding is on the lower back edge of the case, where the Galen Leather Co. logo is stamped into the leather.
The case is held closed with a wrap-around metal zipper with a leather pull tab. The front “cover” of the case has a pen organization panel with 10 elastic pen slots.
Here we see some of my favorite pens (Pilot G2s) in the slots. I also tried putting some Tombow Dual Brush Pens in the slots, but they are too long and won’t fit. The holder will accommodate pens up to 6.5 inches long.
There’s a protective divider that feels like felt or suede separates the pens from the notebook side of the case. The divider is soft so that it protects the pens from scratches.
The back cover of the pen case has a slot for the back cover of your A5 sized notebook. Although this case can accommodate an A5-sized notebook, I found that with pens in the slots it doesn’t leave a lot of room for a thick notebook. Galen’s Everyday leather-bound Tomoe River notebook is a snug fit but it still allows the zipper to close easily.
What I like
- Double duty case that holds pens and a notebook
- Well made
What I’d change
- Make the spine a little wider so thicker notebooks will fit
Final thoughts
The Galen Leather Co. zippered leather 10-slot pen case is a well constructed and beautiful lather case that can hold your favorite pens and A5 sized notebook (as long as it’s isn’t’ too thick). It’s a great accessory that will keep your favorite stationery gear all in one place when you’re mobile and on the go.

Won’t it just make people even more annoying when they come to borrow a pen? I prefer to hide my pens because people seem to think its okay to start another pen before finishing the last.
The little blue bead on the case in the first photo is a göz boncuğu, or eye bead. That’s what I always heard it referred to when I lived in Turkey. It’s common throughout the Middle East and south Asia and has many different names, such as nazar. It’s used to ward off the “evil eye.”
Since Galen is a Turkish company, it makes perfect sense that a göz boncuğu is provided with a purchase for good luck. It was common to have these hanging from the rear view mirror in cars to prevent accidents and busses and trucks would often have a whole string of them arrayed across the front radiator.
LeoB, that’s right, Galen includes the charm with each case they ship.
I love em… But can’t afford them so quite sad. It is good to look though
