When I downsized from a 27″ iMac to a 13″ Macbook Air for my main computer, It felt liberating being able to carry around my computer anywhere I needed to go. But giving up a huge display for one much smaller did take some adjustment. When I’m couch surfing, I don’t really mind the smaller display, but when I’m sitting at a desk in my office, more screen real estate would offer a productivity boost. Last year I reviewed the AOC e1649Fwu 16″ USB monitor and found it easy to use and very handy. Now AOC has improved this monitor by making it faster and thinner. The screen size of the new e1659Fwu remains the same at 15.6” which supports 1366×768 resolution at 60Hz. There have been two changes to improve the monitor. It’s now 13mm thinner than the previous model and features USB 3.0 technology for faster transfer speeds and improved image quality. It’s still compatible with both Mac and PCs and easily converts from landscape to portrait view using the foldable metallic stand on the back of the monitor. The e1659Fwu comes with a carrying case for easier portability and is available at Amazon for $129.99.

  2. Just received the AOC e1649Fwu via UPS from Amazon. Hooked it up to the USB 3.0 ports on my Toshiba P855-S5200 and have been very happy with the duel monitor setup.

I’m in the process of remodeling my office with a homemade 6.5 foot wide floating desk and will have two of these monitors attached via a powered 3.0 hub hidden in the nether-regions of the desk.

Nothing will stop my simultaneous blogging and watching of Robotech!
