Coleman Quad Lantern

We went camping a few times when I was a kid, and I remember my dad lighting up his Coleman kerosene lantern with the little fabric mantle.  My mother was always afraid one of us kids would somehow set herself on fire with that thing.  She would have been much happier if my dad had owned one of these Coleman Quad Lanterns.  The Quad Lantern consists of four panels with six 5mm white LEDs per panel.  The Quad uses 8 D-cell batteries; you can expect about 75 hours of life from a set.  The panels are charged by the base, and each panel can detach from the base to be used as a personal light.  Or attach all four to the base and use the master switch to turn them all on for 190 lumens of lighting power – enough to light up about 26 feet.  You can get the Quad Lantern directly from Coleman for $69.99.

Great – something else for my camping wishlist, though this one has a lot of potential. :)

Coleman makes a nice camping lantern which is perfect whether you are using it as camping equipment or for survival. My only concern is its charge time and how long that charge will last in the field.
