Casio ABL-100WE-7A grey and navy

Casio’s smartest Vintage watch is about to get less flashy. Casioblog reports that two new ABL-100WE models are expected this July, one with a navy dial and one with a grey dial. That sounds like a tiny update until you remember what the ABL-100 is: a square Casio Vintage watch that adds Bluetooth time sync and a step tracker without turning into a full smartwatch.

The original ABL-100 already had the clever part. These new versions appear to keep the same 41.6 x 37.9 x 8.2 mm case, chrome-plated resin body, stainless steel bracelet, Bluetooth connection, step counter, 30 m water resistance, LED backlight, five alarms, countdown timer, and two-year CR2016 battery life. The change is color, and with a watch this small and retro, color changes the whole personality.

The smarter Casio Vintage watch was too shiny for some wrists

The ABL-100 has always been an odd little crossover. It isn’t a smartwatch, and it’s better for that. It doesn’t chase heart rate, GPS, workout modes, or the endless charging cycle that comes with most wrist tech.

Instead, it does the two modern things a classic digital Casio can do without losing itself. Bluetooth keeps time correction and setup simple through the Casio Watches app. The step tracker gives you a daily activity number on the LCD with a progress bar, not a fitness dashboard trying to become your coach.

That restraint is exactly why the ABL-100 keeps pulling interest. It lives in an unusual gap between plain digital watch and full smartwatch, and most shoppers circle the same question before buying: does it actually count as a smartwatch, or is it just a good-looking digital Casio?

TG has also been leaning into the Casio watch lane recently, from Casio’s Toyota Racing Edifice watch to 8 vintage Casio watches still worth buying in 2026. The ABL-100 sits right at the overlap of both ideas: nostalgia, daily utility, and a price that doesn’t need a collector’s justification.

What the new navy and grey models change

Casioblog identifies the two new references as ABL-100WE-2A and ABL-100WE-7A. The ABL-100WE-2A uses a navy dial, while the ABL-100WE-7A uses a grey dial. Both keep the square digital layout and the same general stainless bracelet look as the existing ABL-100WE family.

That means this isn’t a feature upgrade. It’s a wearability upgrade.

The navy version should be the more interesting one for EDC buyers because it softens the chrome without making the watch look anonymous. The grey version is the safer daily pick. It should work better if you like the classic square Casio Vintage look but want the extra Bluetooth and step-counting trick without the gold or black dial contrast of the current models.

What you should not expect from this watch

The ABL-100’s biggest strength is also its limit. It gives you steps, time sync, alarms, timers, and lap memory, but it isn’t built for training plans. There’s no heart rate sensor. There’s no GPS. There are no workout modes. If you want health metrics without a full smartwatch, a slim tracker or budget wearable still makes more sense.

If you want a classic digital watch that quietly counts steps, the ABL-100 becomes more compelling. It solves the normal Casio Vintage ownership annoyances, especially setup and time correction, while leaving the watch looking like something from the 1980s instead of a tiny phone strapped to your arm.

That distinction is exactly what makes this launch land. You already know the brand and the shape, so the only real question left is whether it’s a genuine smartwatch alternative or just a collector color refresh.

Buy the current model or wait for the new colors

If you want an ABL-100 right now, the current silver and gold models are the safe pick. Both the silver ABL100WE-1AVT and the gold ABL100WEG-9AVT list at $94.95 on Casio US today. Those are still impulse-friendly watch prices, especially compared with even budget smartwatches under $200.

If the navy or grey dial is the reason you’re interested, wait. The hardware is expected to stay the same, so there’s no practical penalty for choosing the color you actually want. This is a watch you buy because it disappears into a daily carry setup. Settling for the wrong dial defeats the point.

Casio ABL-100WE-7A Features

The only real caution is availability. The new colorways haven’t been confirmed by Casio US yet, and Casioblog frames July as the expected launch window. Until Casio posts regional listings, treat pricing and US availability as open questions.

The better color may be the whole upgrade

This is the rare watch update where the spec sheet doesn’t need to move. The ABL-100 already did the strange part by putting Bluetooth and a step tracker into a Casio Vintage shape without making the watch feel like a compromised smartwatch.

Navy and grey simply make that idea easier to wear. Neither dial touches what the watch actually does, but both let it blend into a daily wardrobe more quietly than the shiny silver and gold versions.

For Casio collectors, the new references are another small branch on a fast-growing Vintage tree. For everyone else, the pitch is simpler: wait for the color you want, then buy the Casio that counts steps without asking you to manage another screen.
