Targus HDWebcam 01 e1766812750230REVIEWI started looking for a new job and after my first online interview I realized my previously reviewed Acemagic AX16 Pro’s standard 1280x720p definition webcam wasn’t going to cut it so when Targus offered me their new Full HD Webcam with IR Facial Recognition I couldn’t say no. Let’s see if it can get me a job.

The Targus Full HD Webcam with IR Facial Recognition is a full HD 1080p @30 fps (1920 x 1080) resolution webcam with auto-focusing and low light sensors. It also sports a dual stereo duplexed omni-directional microphone to provide realistic real time two way conversation. Design and features

The Targus Full HD Webcam with IR Facial Recognition is super light and compact. It weighs about 3.2 grams or as much as my keys and is about as big as my pocketknife. Truly easy to carry in your backpack or leave mounted to your monitor. It rotates 360 degrees and you can tilt it up to 90 degrees to get the right angle. It also has standard tripod threading on the bottom for pretty much unlimited mounting options. I also like the built in privacy cover so you don’t have to worry about an external one popping off and getting lost.

The plug and play feature makes it super easy to use and comes with a USB-A cable and USB-C dongle for any PC.

Performance:

The Targus Full HD Webcam with IR Facial Recognition is incredible. I never thought I would say that about a webcam but after using it there is a stark difference between standard laptop webcams which are typically 1280x720p and the Targus HD Webcam.

The biggest difference is the sound quality though. Unless I was using a headset with a mic right in front of my mouth people always had a little trouble hearing me. With the Targus HD Webcam’s dual stereo duplexed omni-directional microphone they comment on how clearly they can hear me now. The omni-directional mic really allows for two way communication in real time so now it sounds more like whomever you are talking to is face to face rather than on a phone call.

I have my home setup with dual monitors connected to an Anker USB-C hub so when my partner needs to work from home I can just move my laptop and she can just swap her laptop in and connect the Anker hub. When she’s on Team calls she received the same responses. People told her she sounded much clearer and the auto focus on the Targus HD Webcam meant she could raise the Vari sit to stand desk and move around without her face going out of focus.

I also dabble in 3D printing and when I’m using my Anycubic Kobra 2 Pro which has a USB slot for a webcam I can now use the Targus to check on my prints while I’m away which is super cool.

Final thoughts

Compared to the first 640p webcam I ever purchased that required a CD-ROM for installation the Targus is a race car compared to a bike. In this day and age most
people are going to have to communicate over the internet and while using the standard webcam that comes with your laptop is fine it does not compare to a standalone and the Targus HD Webcam really shows you the difference in performance. If you have online meetings/interviews or do any work where a webcam is involved I would highly recommend the Targus HD Webcam to improve the quality of your communication.
