Design and features
I love the holidays! However, I am not as fond of putting up the lights. I am scared of heights, so going up and down a ladder is not my idea of fun. These outdoor lights are meant to be permanent. They are waterproof and weatherproof. I’m a little nervous for when it gets super cold, because I live in an area that is frequently in the negative digits during the winter. These lights say that they are supported from -4° up to 140°F. Hopefully, I will never have to test out the upper temperature zone.
I enjoyed the design of these lights. They come in 15 foot sections that each have a three pin connector on both ends. At the end of the row, there is a cap that will screw onto the three pin connector to cover it and keep it weather resistant. There are some small extender cables included for two way or three-way splits. I wish that they had a longer extension for the areas where I don’t need lights, but would still like to hook it up to the rest of the system. I was able to contact the company to see if they had one, about 6 feet long, but I was out of luck.
Each strand of 15 feet contains 10 LED lights. They resemble tea lights in appearance. Each of the lights has a sticky backing that as you put it up onto your house, make sure to clean the place you want to stick it and that it is fully dry, peel off the back sticker tab and press for a couple seconds.
I discovered that the lights were fully adhered after only a slight push, so adjusting anything was not pleasant. Luckily, you can’t see the different directions that the cords are pointed. The cords can have a little wiggle room so they don’t have to be pointing directly to the side of what you’re putting it on.
Before you hang up these lights, you should plug them in and make sure everything turns on. Nothing is worse than climbing a 12 foot ladder only to realize it was all for naught. While the lights are plugged in, now is a good time to pull out your phone and test the app.
If you don’t plan on using the app, make sure the remote can connect. The app is relatively easy to use, and the instructions for set up are clear and easy to follow. My husband runs a couple other items in our house on the same app for the smart lights. So adding mine to the bundle was a piece of cake.
After the lights are put on the house comes the fun part! If you’ve already connected your lights to the app, or you have the remote ready, then turn it on and start to play. There are so many things that can be done with the lights. They have pre-programmed scenes like Halloween, Christmas, football day, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, etc. there is also the ability to just pick any color you want. Also, you can change each individual lightbulb. There are options available to add music to your lights. So, you know those houses that everybody wants to see during Christmas because they’re synced up with music, it may not be quite that intense but it’s still pretty darn cool. If you want the lights to flash, or slowly dim and get brighter, these are also available. You can have the lights wave across the house or just stay on one color. There really are so many things available with these lights.
Some of my neighbors have orange, white, and yellow to look like candy corn for Halloween, and maybe I’ll try that at some point, but the Halloween scene that is pre-programmed has purple, orange, yellow, green, and red. They look really cool and I’m excited to hand out candy with all the lights changing colors.
Final thoughts
I have fallen in love with these lights. They are easy to use, the app is made for people like me. I can go and push one or two buttons, and everything looks awesome, but if you want to dig deeper, you can really get crazy with the display. The price also seems fairly competitive. I really hope these hold up for a long time to come. I would love to never have to climb the ladder for lights ever again.
What I like about EDISHINE outdoor lighting
- waterproof
- Easy to use app
- LED lights
- Easy install
- Limitless possibilities with what the lights can do.
- Everything you need is provided
- Easy to add more later
- Works with Alexa and Google
What needs to be improved?
- Need extender cables that are longer to go between eaves, or other sections
- Some pieces don’t hold their stickiness. (Could be user error though, there were a lot of spiderwebs that I really didn’t want to touch.)
