COSORI 1

REVIEW – I consider myself pretty normal (bold, I know) and I got excited about the COSORI Kettle after the first use. I can justify the emotion if you read on. The COSORI Kettle replaced our old-tech hot pot that would surely boil water, but we don’t usually want it boiled. The COSORI Kettle has modern tech built in.

Design and features

The COSORI Goosneck Kettle can heat water to 5 temperature levels and can hold the water at that temperature if you activate the ‘Hold’ feature.

Once the target temperature is achieved, a pleasant, high pitched tone sounds 3 times.

COSORI 4

The gooseneck spout ensures more accurate pouring than a traditional hot pot wide spout.

COSORI 2

This is a great benefit for making pour-over coffee or if using an Aeropress.

COSORI 12

The kettle will automatically turn off if there is less than ½ cup of water inside. This is a nice safety measure and also prevents ruining the device.

COSORI 11

The handle is comfortable to hold and well balanced whether full or partially filled. The handle material is well insulated from any heat.

COSORI 10

Many water heating pots have a maximum fill line inside. I saw ‘XAM’ impressed under the handle area and wondered for a half-second what that might mean. When viewed from the inside, there is the ‘MAX’ mark.

COSORI 8

The ‘Hold Temp’ feature keeps the water at the temperature you designated when you heated the water. It will hold that temperature for one hour before turning the kettle off.

The heat control buttons include the words, ‘White, Green, Oolong, Coffee, and Boil Black’ above the temperature listed for each button. Those can be ignored. You may want your green tea hotter or less hot than the 180° specified at that button. I’m not really sure what ‘Boil Black’ would mean anyway. Boiling water would make coffee too bitter for my taste.

Even though I’m enthusiastic about the ‘ready signal’, it can be disabled by holding the ‘HOLD TEMP’ button for 8 seconds and can be reinstated with the same procedure.

Assembly, Installation, Setup

The instruction manual for the COSORI kettle is complete and easy to read. Directions recommend a cleaning procedure before using the pot for beverages. The simple procedure is to boil a full pot of water, pour it out and rinse the kettle with cold water 2-3 times once the kettle cools. It is then ready to use to make hot drinks.

This is coffee corner at Strickland kitchen. We don’t usually keep it this busy. This is almost every way we have to make coffee.

Performance

The COSORI Gooseneck Kettle worked flawlessly, with one tiny exception. About 2-3 times a week the controls would not activate and I had to unplug the base from AC power for 5 seconds and plug it back in. Then the kettle worked normally again. I could not determine what created this need for resetting. We never heated less than the recommended amount of water so the unresponsive controls did not seem to relate to any device safety issue.

The signal that sounds once the kettle reaches the desired temperature is, for me, the best feature of the device. I can go multi-task while the water is heating and get alerted when the water is ready. My old hot pot would heat water to boiling and then automatically turn off, so if I didn’t want boiling water every time I had to babysit the pot and stop it at an intermediate point, and check the temperature with a cooking thermometer.

My favorite temperature for Aeropress coffee-making is just under 180° and now I don’t have to have a thermometer ready at coffee time. I found the temperatures produced by the COSORI to be about 5° short of the temperature printed on the buttons, but to me, five degrees isn’t a big issue.  The COSORI did boil water to 212°.

Final thoughts

The COSORI Goosneck Kettle is now all we use for making tea and coffee. No more microwave or old school hot pot. The device is solidly made and works well. I think it is worth its price and your consideration.

What I like about the COSORI Electric Gooseneck Kettle

  • There are no plastic parts inside the pot
  • Heats to specified temperatures
  • An audible signal alerts you to ‘ready’
  • Gooseneck spout enables accurate pouring

What needs to be improved?

  • Less need to reset would be a convenience
