REVIEW – Just before COVID hit, I was fortunate to purchase a Herman Miller office chair for my home office use. When COVID hit, my home office became my main office from March 2020 to March 2023, where I had to go back to work four days a week in the office. I quickly realized that my body had become spoiled by having such a nice chair to sit in at home. The chairs my office supplied that used to be okay now give me backaches by the end of the day. I will blame those backaches on the office chairs at work and the fact that I am getting older! The Gadgeteer often gets office and gaming chairs to review, so when the Sihoo Doro S300 office chair came up for review, I volunteered for it. I have had the chance to use it for a few days at work. Let’s see if it is better than the office chairs I have used before for work.
What is it?
The Sihoo Doro S300 is an ergonomic chair that can be used for the office, gaming, or even lounging around. Sihoo has a large line of these types of chairs; the S300 is the latest in their lineup. It has more ways to adjust it to your preferences than I have seen on any other chair.
What’s in the box?
- Sihoo Doro S300 chair back
- chair seat
- two armrests
- five leg castors
- five legs
- main base to which the legs attach
- base gas shock
- user manual
- gloves for installation – I did not use these
- washer and bolt kit, along with a nice Allen wrench for assembly

Design and features
So it feels like the Sihoo Doro S300 chair has a million ways to adjust it to your body. The first two pictures below show the highest and lowest settings for the main back support. The lumbar wings are separate from the main back support. It can slide high enough to easily support the back of your head. I raised it high enough that the top curve was behind my neck. I never really use head support when working.
The next two pictures show the low and high positions of the Sihoo Doro S300’s seat arms. Looking closely at the top of the armrests, you can see they are slightly concave. That concaveness would be my single complaint about the comfort of the chair. I like resting my entire forearm on the top of the armrest when using my mouse, and that dip in the armrest makes it a bit uncomfortable. I found a workaround by positioning the armrest slightly further back than I normally would, and it works for me.
These next few pictures show how the arms can swivel. The entire top of the arm can swivel, and so can the black rubber part of the arm. The top part of the armrest can also slide forward. I use all these settings to get the seat arms at the right height and forward enough to touch my keyboard tray. My entire arm is supported as I use my trackball mouse.
My favorite feature of the Sihoo Doro S300 ergonomic office chair is the lumbar support. The lumbar support is basically two wings just below the main backrest. You can see a dial at the bottom of the right wing. That will cause the wings to flair all of the way out, then you can click it back until you get the support you like. The wings have springs that provide really good support and the second picture shows a gas shock that is used to push them forward or back.
Directly under the seat are three levers/knobs used to adjust the seat further. On the left, the lever will let you move the seat pan forward or backward to get the desired depth for your tush. The knob in the middle has three settings to control how far back the backrest will lean. Heads up on the number 3 setting. I thought the seat would tip over the first time I used it because it leans so far back. You could take a nap on this chair in that setting. The dips in the armrests feel great when leaned back that far. The lever to the right of the knob raises and lowers the seat height. The final knob on the far right bottom controls the tension of the backrest as you lean back.
Here is a picture of the Sihoo S300 chair from the front. It looks quite distinctive compared to your normal office chair. Several coworkers stopped by and asked me where I got this chair. Of course, they all wanted to sit in it to try it out.
Setup
I set up the Sihoo Doro S300 office chair in less than half an hour by myself. I am attaching the installation video created by the company. They did a way better job creating this video than I ever could. In their video, I want to mention that they used the box it came in to install the backrest on the seat base. The box was nowhere near sturdy enough to support the seat and hold it in place. I ended up using my couch as a base to hold the seat base upside down. I then pushed the seat back against the couch while inserting it into the seat base. I also did not insert the chair arms until I had installed the whole chair on the main shock and wheels. My couch had its own arms that got in the way of installing the chair arms while the chair was upside down on the couch. All the bolts had blue locktite, which was a nice touch. That should keep them from slowly unscrewing as I use the chair over time.
I will note that this chair is pretty heavy at almost 60 lbs, and it was an awkward lift hoisting it by myself onto the main gas shock. Having another person there to help would have been nice. I used my husband to help me load it into my car to take it to work.
Performance
I had a coworker take some pictures of me sitting in the Sihoo Doro S300 chair. This first picture is with the seatback set to only stay in the full upright position.
Next, I put the seat back in the second position. I had the tension knob at its highest setting. This is where I normally keep the chair when I work on it. You can see how the armrests have that dip in them that I don’t like when sitting in this position. I feel pressure on the front and back of my forearm and no support in the middle.
Finally, this is the full recline position. As I stated before, I could seriously nap in this chair.
I have really enjoyed using the Sihoo Doro S300 chair at work. My back no longer aches when I am done working at the end of the day. The mesh is very supportive without being uncomfortable or stiff. Every one of my coworkers who sat in it loved it. The only thing they did not love was the price. It is rather expensive but very comparable to the cost of a Herman Miller or top-level office chair.
What I like
- There are a million ways to adjust this chair to your comfort.
- Well-built and sturdy
- It just looks cool.
What I’d change
- Remove the dip from the armrest.
- It is rather pricey, but how important is comfort in something you sit in eight hours a day?
Final thoughts
I never thought I would say this, but I finally found a chair more comfortable than my Herman Miller office chair. With so many ways to adjust the Sihoo Doro S300 ergonomic office chair, you can make it fit almost anyone. If Santa did not bring you what you want for Christmas, give yourself a present and get one of these chairs.
