REVIEW – I’ve reviewed several red light therapy devices from a laser helmet that claimed to restore thinning hair (it didn’t for me) to an infrared wrap that claimed to help with sore joints (again, it didn’t really help me). So with that track record in mind, why did I agree to review the Bestqool Pro100 red light therapy device? What can I say, I’m an eternal optimist and hoped this one would actually deliver on its claims.

What is it?

The Bestqool Pro100 is a red light therapy device that has both red and near-infrared capability.

What’s in the box?

First of all, the Bestqool Pro100 red light therapy device is the largest red light therapy device that I’ve had the opportunity to test so far. It provides a 23.5″ x 10″ irradiated area which depending on how large of a person you are, can be almost half the size of your body. For me, it is large enough to cover from my neck to my belly button.

The unit is nicely constructed with a white steel housing that protects the 100 bulbs.

The rear of the housing has attachment points for hanging the unit as well as openings for the built-in cooling fans.

On the left side, you’ll find the control panel.

The control panel has touch buttons that toggle power, toggle red light, toggle near-infrared light, and a button to customize the session timer. Above the control buttons is a simple digital timer display that counts down the session time while the unit is in use.

One end of the Bestqool Pro100 red light therapy device has a power port and two brass eyelets for hanging the device.

Included with the unit is a door hook, and a pully that you can use to raise and lower the height of the Bestqool Pro100 red light therapy device depending on what part of your body you want it to work on.

I set up the Bestqool Pro100 red light therapy device in my bathroom on the back of the door.

The user manual suggests a session time of 20-25 minutes every day.

I did this using both the red light and NIR light at the same time. What is the difference between red light and NIR light? Here is an explanation from Bestqool’s FAQ on their site:

Red light wavelength 660nm is absorved at a higher proportion by the skin tissue, making it especially effective for boosting skin health and increasing collagen. Infrared light 850nm has a strong ability to penetrate deeper into the tissue, joints and organs, making it ideal for enhancing muscle recovery, reducing joint pain and inflammation.

This is what the red light looks like when it’s running. Note that you can not see the NIR light and you DO NOT want to stare at the Bestqool Pro100 red light therapy device if the NIR is active because it can cause damage to your eyes. That’s why there is a special set of goggles included with the unit that you need to wear while doing a session.

What did I want from this red light therapy device?

My primary motive for trying yet another device like this is to help with inflammation/arthritis in my right hand, overall skin health, and general health.

Did it work?

I wish I could give you a definitive YES or NO answer to that question but it’s not easy to tell because I’ve only been using it for a couple of weeks and the effects are cumulative and it can take at least a month or longer of daily sessions before you can see/feel any positive effects. Having said that, I feel like it’s already helping me with sleep improvements. I feel like I’ve gotten better rest since using the Bestqool Pro100 red light therapy device. I don’t know if this is just my imagination or not though.

I haven’t felt any noticeable improvements with my right hand yet or any real changes in my skin. But again, it can take time to see any effects. So I’ll be continuing to regularly use this device and will report back with some review updates in the coming weeks.

I will say that it would be nice if there was some sort of stand included with the device for a more comfortable session I don’t really like hanging it on the back of a door and standing in front of it for the sessions. It would be nice to sit down.

Also, with the goggles in place, you can’t see anything, so you can’t check the timer on the device to know how much longer a session is going to last. It would be nice if there were beeps every 10 to 15 minutes to let you know how much time is left in a session.

What I like

  • Simple controls
  • Well constructed
  • Large size
  • Has both red and NIR LEDs

What I’d change

  • Include a stand
  • It would be nice if the timer would beep or chime every 10 minutes so you could know how much longer the session would be when you’re wearing the goggles

Final thoughts

I can’t give you my final thoughts yet since I’ve not been using this device long enough to know if it is really benefiting me. For this reason, I’ll be doing an update in a couple of weeks and then again a few weeks after that so I can give the Bestqool Pro100 red light therapy device an honest test. As it is so far, I think it’s a well made device that is easy to use and may be helping me with improved sleep after only a couple of weeks of use. But so far, that’s the only benefit I’ve noticed.
