With the Neutron S, you can hang your phone or tablet (under 1 pound) in your car, on your computer, on the wall, or even on the fridge. The Neutron S is a small square of machined aerospace aluminum with a shielded permanent neodymium magnet which will never lose its hold. You attach the Neutron S to your selected surface with 3M tape (included), and it even has a glow-in-the-dark pad to help you find it even in a dark car. The Neutron S measures about an inch square and 0.3″ thick. It should work with any Apple or Android device under 1 pound, and you could even use it as a hanger for your keys or hang kitchen utensils. The Neutron S is available only in Deep Space Gray from TUAW Deals for $30.00.

Also available on Amazon. I almost bought one of these for my car, but opted for the Schosche magnetic mount with a base that swivels so that the view can be adjusted. This mount is flat and would work in a car only if you have the perfect position to place it so that you can view the screen. My car didn’t. The Schosche works great. It holds my Galaxy Note 2 with no problem.
Will it work with a case on the phone?
I don’t use a case, but according to the reviews on Amazon many people do and it works fine:
@LeoB The product you’re linking to on Amazon is not the same product that Janet is talking about in the news post.
Sorry — I was replying to what I thought was a question from thedigitaldoc to my first post…now I realize that he could have been asking that question of the Neuron S rather than the one I mentioned.
Oops, I didn’t see your first comment about the Scosche… 🙂
I’ll just point out that this works for Windows Phones (WP gets no respect) as well…it isn’t a phone specific item, it is any device you want to add a magnet to so that it connects to the magnet you mount on the dash.
The one caveat to all of these magnetic devices is that they interfere with wireless charging…so if you mount this to a wireless charging phone (like a lumia 920) you will not be able to charge wireless.
That being said, I have a similar one in my car and I have pads on my lumia phone and Nexus 7 tablet…the pads hold both!
“…it is any device you want to add a magnet to so that it connects to the magnet you mount on the dash.”
I don’t believe that the metal plate that attaches to the phone (or is placed inside a phone case) is actually magnetic. It’s just an unmagnetized metal plate that then holds fast to the magnetic mount on the dash or wherever. At least that’s what I learned from doing research on these before I bought one.
@Tech Leo is right. If this product is like the iOmount that I reviewed, it’s just a steel plate that you attach either on the back or behind the back cover. I have this one in my LG G3 and am able to wireless charge just fine.
I like this idea, and I have something similar at this time. I have been using the Rokform case for my iPhone 6, and used their case for my iPhone 4S for years prior. This case comes with magnetic mount for car, two types of magnet attachments for the case. They also have other locking mounts that work with case and accessories. I attached my magnet in my car on my air flow dial, and it works perfect even in landscape mode for GPS. You can check them out at rokform.com, they have cases for iphones and samsung galaxies.
