If you’re looking for a sleeve that will protect your iPad 2 (or original iPad) and help the environment at the same time, check out the iPad 2 Soul Sleeve from Day of the Thread. Let’s take a look.
Note: The images in this review can be clicked for a larger view.
The Soul Sleeve looks like it has been made of felt or wool, but it’s really made of Eco-Fi polyester fiber. What’s that? It’s a material that has been created from post-consumer recycled plastic bottles.
The design of sleeve is simple. It’s basically like an envelope. There’s one large pocket with a flap that is held closed with a colorful plastic button. You have a choice of 7 different button colors. I picked Green.
The only branding on the sleeve is the small black tag sewn into the seam at the bottom of one side.
Additional storage is available on the back of the sleeve, where there’s one large open pocket. This pocket can hold papers, cords, etc.
The iPad 2 fits into the Soul Sleeve like a glove. I tried to include an Apple smart cover, but the fit was tight. The FAQ on the Day of the Thread website says that the sleeve will stretch over time, to accommodate the smart cover though.
The material of this sleeve is pretty thick, so it does add bulk to the iPad. But that bulk will protect your device in the event of a fall or from other items in your backpack.
I can’t find any faults with the Soul Sleeve. The materials and construction are very well done. It’s a 100% handmade item that looks unique and does its intended job, which is to protect your iPad 2 when it’s not being used. The fact that it’s also made of recycled materials is an extra thumbs up for this sleeve.
