gymygymI bet you have never read a title like that one have you? The GymyGym (pronounced like: jimmy gym) is a great looking office chair that doubles as a workout machine. It has built in bungee type straps for your hands and feet so that you can do 16 core exercises to strengthen and stretch all major muscle groups: Arms, Chest, Legs, Back, Shoulders, Torso and Glutes. Now sedentary office (and home) workers have no excuse, we can stretch and tone right where we sit. The $599 GymyGym is available in Black, Red and Orange.

  2. For about $300 (reimbursed) and 4 hours, which included travel time to Ikea, I put together a standing desk at work.

Sitting down for long periods of time is one of the worst things you can do to your body. And the easiest fix for the majority of white collar office workers is to just stand up during work.

Luckily, my employer supported me in this endeavor, but had they been reluctant, I could have built a raised platform for my prior desk in my workshop at home, for around $30 in lumber.

    1. @thsu do you find that your back hurts after standing for 8hrs? I think there has to be a happy medium between sitting and moving. I wouldn’t want to sit for 8hrs without moving, nor would I want to stand for 8hrs without sitting 🙂

  3. Julie, your body adjusts. Yes, your back hurts, and yes, your feet hurt for the first few weeks, but it all gets better. And it’s not like you end up standing all day long – I’m a white collar worker, after all – I sit during lunch and meetings.

Basically, I end up standing up at work about 80% of the time, rather than sitting at work 80% of the time. Instead of taking a break to stand and stretch, I take a break by sitting down.
