The older I get, the more my kids must question my sanity. Whether it’s the organic diet that they just don’t see the point of, or the obsession I have with home automation, they are constantly wondering what I’m doing. Yes I eat leaves and when I speak my lights turn on…so? My daughter recently walked into my office and said, “Okay…mom’s lost it for real this time. She bought a hammock for the cat and it’s under her desk!”
I explained that the hammock was NOT for the cat and that it was, in fact, a wonderful invention for my feet. Giggles and smirks ensued and to cut to the chase, a week later I found her at my desk, feet in hammock, typing away in complete comfort. If only I could convert her to an organic diet that easily.
Installing the product was simple. It has two hooks that come with two-sided sticky tape, or if you’d rather screw it into the underside of your desk, they provide the hardware for that as well. Not knowing if I wanted the permanency of actually drilling into my desk, I opted for the super sticky 3M adhesive tape.
After using the hammock for about a week and a half, the tape gave way and came down while I was using it (see photo above). I emailed The Foot Hammock customer service to see if I could get another hook so I could finish my review. I got a response back within hours and Matt at The Foot Hammock told me they had another hook on the way. It arrived two days later and I re-installed it, then waited the recommended 24 hours before using it to allow the adhesive bond to set. Alas, I was off and running…err, sitting…again in complete comfort. Note: I’ve been using the product for the last two months now with the new adhesive and I’ve had no problem.
I have the basic canvas design which is $29.99 (seen above), but they come in fleece ($39.99), or heated fleece ($49.99) as well, and they come in a variety of colors as well. Even though I’m in Florida, my feet are always cold in the AC, and I bet that fleece it’s even more comfy than the canvas. One reason I was interested in this product in the first place is I spend a lot of time at my desk, and I find myself sitting cross-legged. Not only would my feet fall asleep a lot, but I’ve heard that sitting that way decreases your circulation and can cause varicose veins. Since I’ve started using this hammock, I’ve stopped sitting that way and I’ve found that it has also helped my posture as well. I’m about 5’7″ and when I’m sitting high enough for my arms to rest comfortably at my desk to type, my feet aren’t flat on the ground. The Foot Hammock has helped me to feel more comfortable and have better posture. Since the hammock has adjustable straps, someone who is even shorter will undoubtedly find this to be a very comfortable alternative for them as well. Also, all of the different versions of the hammock are machine washable…nice!
All in all, I’m happy with this product and I’m so glad that the new hook I was sent has stayed in place. I was without it for about a week and I have to say I didn’t like it. I have actually considered ordering that fleece hammock for my eternally cold tootsies!
Updates 03/01/16
I’ve stopped using my beloved Foot Hammock because the 3M super sticky tape on the other side of my desk fell off. When I originally reviewed it, one side came loose and I contacted them and they sent a replacement. It seemed to work fine, then about a month ago, the other side came of. In my opinion, they shouldn’t even offer the tape as an option. I guess if I want to use it I will have to actually screw the hooks into the underside of my desk so I don’t have to rely on tape to keep my tootsies dangling weightlessly.

The heated fleece one is actually $60 (not $50). Cool little product.
How does this compare to an ottoman?
Hi Greg,
I’ve personally never used an ottoman under my desk, but I would think that it might be about the same. You can move your feet toward the front of your desk and closer to you as you would an ottoman to adjust your position. The hammock is nice because your feet are wrapped, plus you can adjust the straps to allow your feet to be higher or lower toward the ground.
I recieved the FootHammock 4 weeks after ordering it. I waited 24 hours to use it and cleaned the surface before using it. I used it after the 24 hours to adhere and it fell off after 20 minutes. I emailed them and they have yet to return my email. I am very disapointed.
I believe you only got a response and new hooks because you were reviewing it. It has been an awful time dealing with these guys and as a very early backer, it was disgusting to receive my shipping notification over two and a half months after they announced shipping began.
