Here’s a great gift for the cooking enthusiast on your gift list.  The Sharper Image is offering a set of four polypropylene boards – for fish, meat, fruits, and vegetables – that are stored in a stand that disinfects the boards with UV light.  Since UV light is said to kill 99.9% of microbiological creatures, this system should help reduce your chance of spreading food-borne illness.  The UV sanitizer can be wall-mounted or stand on a counter.  The Germ Killing Ultra Violet Cutting Board System sells for $149.99.

Silly kitchen gadget alert!
I wonder how long this thing lasts in a kitchen environment where the cutting boards are going to possibly be wet and may even have food particles?

I would assume that most people would wash and dry their cutting boards before they store them.

How many percentage of germs does washing and drying cutting boards kill?

Do you really need to expose cutting boards to UV light if you’ve washed and dried them?

Too much of what is available at The Sharper Image are overpriced solutions in search of problems.

Bleach is cheaper and kills everything and gets rid of the food stains.
