With this purification method, it’s difficult to keep contaminated water from areas where you put your lips. My friend had a “problem” during one of our backpacking trips after using a (UV) SteriPen. Plus it doesn’t get rid of muck and other floaty things in the water. My friend has switched to a gravity-fed filtration system, which has clean water coming out of hose into his water bottle.
