EDITOR'S QUOTE:

A surprisingly portable scooter that turns familiar water days into adventures.

Towels, sunscreen, goggles, a cooler, and maybe a float usually cover the basics for a day near the water. The LEFEET P1 Lite adds something far more exciting: a motor that pulls you through the pool, along the shoreline, or across clear lake water while you hang on and enjoy the ride. I spent this summer using this compact underwater scooter for snorkel laps in my swimming pool, and its biggest strength isn’t outright speed. It’s how easily a 3.9-pound aluminum scooter can become part of the day’s gear instead of a bulky piece of dive equipment that gets left at home.

At $549, the P1 Lite isn’t an impulse-buy pool toy. It feels and performs like a serious water accessory, but it’s simple enough to charge, grab, and take wherever you’re planning to swim.

What is the LEFEET P1 Lite?

The P1 Lite is a handheld underwater scooter, also called a sea scooter or diver propulsion vehicle. Squeeze the trigger and its enclosed propeller pulls you through the water. For divers, that assistance can mean less continuous kicking, lower physical exertion, and steadier breathing, which may help conserve breathing gas and make it easier to explore farther. It can also provide useful support in light or moderate currents without turning every change in water movement into a hard finning effort.

Four speed settings let you start slowly, cruise while snorkeling, or turn up the thrust when you want a livelier ride. LEFEET rates the P1 Lite for up to 8 kgf of thrust, a top speed of 1.6 meters per second, and depths down to 60 meters. I didn’t independently verify those maximum figures, and recreational swimmers will get far more value from the compact size and simple controls than from the extreme depth rating.

Design and build

The first thing I noticed was the aluminum body. A lot of small water gadgets feel like hollow plastic as soon as you pick them up. The P1 Lite feels solid, cool, and substantial without becoming heavy. A molded cage surrounds the propeller, the trigger controls power, and a separate button moves through the four speed modes.

There are no apps, accounts, pairing steps, or phone controls. The only part that feels overly basic is the battery indicator. I’d rather see a remaining percentage before heading far from shore.

Modular design and accessories

I tested the standard handheld configuration for this review. LEFEET also sells several accessories that change how the P1 Lite is used, expanding it into scuba, camera, leg-mounted, dual-scooter, and paddleboard setups. I didn’t test those accessories firsthand, so the details below describe LEFEET’s configurations rather than my hands-on results.

Single-hand configuration

LEFEET offers a setup that lets you operate one P1 Lite with one hand. That could be useful for divers who need the other hand available for equalizing, adjusting equipment, or handling a camera. It’s also the simplest and lightest configuration, although I tested the standard handle setup rather than this accessory.

Dual Rail Kit

The Dual Rail Kit connects two P1 Lite units into a wider, two-handed scooter. LEFEET says the units can be used together for more thrust or separated for use as two individual scooters. The complete Dual Set includes two scooters and the rail kit. I didn’t test this configuration, so I can’t judge how much more controllable or useful it is in practice.

Leg Mount Kit

The Leg Mount Kit mounts one P1 Lite to each leg and leaves both hands free. LEFEET says riders steer by changing their leg and body position. That sounds more specialized than the standard handle, and I’d expect a learning curve, but I didn’t test it.

Scuba Tank Mount Kit

The Tank Mount Kit attaches two P1 Lite units to a scuba tank for hands-free propulsion. That could reduce the amount of finning required, but it doesn’t change the need for gas planning, current awareness, and safe turnaround limits. This is information supplied by LEFEET, not a configuration I tested.

SUP Mount

The SUP Mount attaches a P1 Lite to a stand-up paddleboard and adds motorized assistance. It could help during relaxed cruising or make the return trip easier when wind or fatigue picks up. Check local rules before using a powered device on public water.

What’s included

My review unit arrived with the scooter body, handle bracket, soft zip case, USB-C charging cable, and action-camera mount. The current US Amazon listing includes:

  • P1 Lite main unit
  • Bracket and handle
  • Wired control
  • Mounting screw
  • Anti-loss strap
  • Camera mount
  • Three spare O-rings
  • USB-C charging cable
  • Soft carrying case

First ride and performance

Setup is short: charge the scooter, attach the handle and control, secure the anti-loss strap, and get in the water.

I began in the lowest mode. The first squeeze of the trigger tugged my arm forward harder than I expected, and I immediately wanted another pass. By my second session, changing speeds felt natural.

The trick is to relax. Let your legs float behind you, point the scooter where you want to go, and allow the motor to do the work. Modes one and two are good for looking around while you cruise. The higher settings put more snap into the ride.

A top speed of 3.6 mph doesn’t sound impressive on land. Water changes that calculation. At full power, the P1 Lite pulled me with my legs relaxed and continued moving through a mild current without bogging down.

It also showed me where it belongs. This isn’t a heavy-duty scooter for technical diving or strong current. It’s much easier to picture beside a pile of towels at the pool, tucked into the car for a lake day, or packed with snorkeling gear for the beach. You get enough pull to make an ordinary swim feel new without hauling a much larger machine.

LEFEET also lists a hidden Turbo mode. When the battery indicator is full, triple-pressing the power button is supposed to activate a 20-second boost, with LEFEET claiming 20% more thrust and a top speed of 1.8 m/s, or about 4.0 mph. I didn’t independently verify those figures, so treat Turbo as a stated feature rather than part of my hands-on performance results.

One scooter, three kinds of water days

At the pool: The immediate fun is taking turns, racing from one end to the other, or seeing how smoothly you can glide without kicking. The lowest mode gives a new user time to understand the pull before moving faster. Follow LEFEET’s instructions and all pool rules, and don’t treat the propeller guard as permission to ignore fingers, hair, straps, or loose clothing.

At the beach: The P1 Lite can pull you along the shoreline or add speed to a snorkeling session. Saltwater use also means rinsing the scooter thoroughly with fresh water afterward. Keep an eye on current, waves, visibility, and how far the motor has carried you from your starting point.

At the lake: Calm, open water gives the scooter room to cruise, and its compact case doesn’t consume much space beside towels, life jackets, and the rest of the day’s gear. Local rules vary, so check whether powered swimming devices are permitted before using it.

These aren’t three different products or complicated configurations. It’s the same small scooter moving from one outing to the next, which is why the P1 Lite belongs near the top of a future list of the best pool, beach, and lake toys.

The camera mount is worth using

The included mount accepts standard GoPro-style fingers. I attached a GoPro, selected mode two, and used the scooter’s steady pull for tracking shots while I concentrated on framing. That opens up plenty of creative options for vacations, snorkeling trips, and family pool days without trying to swim, steer, and hold a separate camera at the same time.

Battery life and charging

LEFEET lists a maximum runtime of 60 minutes. Mixed use lasted through a long snorkeling session with charge remaining, while sustained high-speed use pulled the indicator down more quickly. My empty battery took roughly 90 minutes to recharge with a 100W USB-C adapter, so I could use the same type of charger I carry for a laptop.

The USB-C port also supports reverse charging, according to LEFEET, so the P1 Lite can serve as an emergency power source for a phone or another compatible device. I wouldn’t buy the scooter for that feature, but it could be useful when traveling. LEFEET also lists built-in charging and discharging protection.

The limitation is the built-in battery. You can’t swap in a fresh pack for a second outing. That makes the P1 Lite easy to charge and pack for casual swimming, but it isn’t the model I’d choose for back-to-back dives or hours of continuous use.

Easy to bring along

At 3.9 pounds and roughly 11 inches long, the P1 Lite slips into its soft case without taking over the car or luggage. Its 99.63 Wh battery sits below the common 100 Wh threshold used in airline carry-on policies, although rules can vary for products with integrated lithium batteries. Check directly with your carrier before traveling, keep it out of checked luggage, and don’t assume every airline will handle it identically.

Safety and care

An underwater scooter can carry you farther and faster than you realize. It isn’t lifesaving equipment, and the propeller guard doesn’t replace careful handling.

Start in the lowest mode, use the anti-loss strap as directed, and keep hair, fingers, straps, and loose clothing away from the intake. Stay aware of swimmers, boats, current, waves, and your distance from shore. Follow LEFEET’s supervision guidance and all local rules.

After saltwater or lake use, rinse the scooter with fresh water and let it dry. Inspect the guard, controls, seals, strap, and charging area before packing it for the next outing.

Who should buy it?

Buy it if: You swim, snorkel, travel, or want one exciting accessory that can move among the pool, beach, lake, and vacation luggage. The P1 Lite is best for people who value compact size and approachable power more than maximum speed.

Skip it if: You need a replaceable battery, routinely dive in strong currents, want technical-diving performance, or simply want an inexpensive pool toy. LEFEET sells stronger P1 configurations, but they add weight and cost.

Final thoughts

LEFEET P1 Lite Underwater Scooter 1681

The P1 Lite succeeds because bringing it along doesn’t feel like work. It’s small enough to join the usual pile of towels, goggles, fins, and sunscreen, yet powerful enough to change what you do once you hit the water. Take turns zipping across a pool, cruise beside the beach, explore a calm lake, or mount a camera for smooth underwater footage. The non-removable battery and $549 price will rule it out for some buyers, but if you want a compact underwater scooter you’ll actually bring with you, the LEFEET P1 Lite delivers a lot of fun from a surprisingly small package.
