Xiaomi’s next flagship is already generating serious buzz months ahead of its expected debut. If the leaks hold up, the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max won’t just be an iterative bump over the 17 Pro Max. It’s shaping up to be one of the boldest camera phones of 2026, headlined by a rumored dual 200MP setup and a brand-new Snapdragon chip. Here’s everything we know so far.

For context, the current-generation Xiaomi 17 already left a strong impression in our review. It’s a compact $630 phone whose battery genuinely outlasted an iPhone, so expectations for a maxed-out 18 Pro Max are running high.

When is it launching?

Multiple tipsters point to a September 2026 reveal, in line with Xiaomi’s usual flagship cadence. One notable twist: leaker Digital Chat Station claims Xiaomi is flipping its normal release order this year, launching the higher-spec Xiaomi 18 Pro series first, with the standard Xiaomi 18 following in the months after. Both phones are reportedly expected to be on sale before the Chinese Spring Festival in February.

There’s also encouraging news for buyers outside China: the Xiaomi 18 Pro series has been tipped for a global launch, potentially closing the long gap between the China release and international availability that we saw with previous generations.

The headline feature: dual 200MP cameras

The camera is where the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max gets genuinely exciting, with leaks describing one of the most ambitious setups on any 2026 flagship. At its heart is a 200MP main camera built around a large 1/1.28″ “new generation” LOFIC sensor, joined by a 200MP periscope telephoto that uses a 1/1.56″ sensor with 3x optical zoom and an f/2.4 aperture. A 50MP ultrawide rounds out the rear trio. That telephoto is said to double as a macro lens, focusing from roughly 15cm (down from about 30cm on the 17 Pro Max). LOFIC HDR 3.0 imaging technology and continued Leica tuning complete the package.

Xiaomi 17 Cameras

That’s a dramatic leap over the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max, which paired a 50MP main sensor with a 50MP 5x periscope. Pairing two 200MP sensors, one wide and one telephoto, could translate into sharper zoom reach, cleaner low-light shots, and more headroom for computational tricks at every focal length. A 50MP front camera is also reportedly on board, though at least one leak has pointed to a 32MP selfie shooter instead.

Display and design

Expect a 6.9-inch flat LTPO OLED panel with a 2K-class resolution, a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, and notably narrower bezels than its predecessor. Listings peg the resolution around 1200 x 2608 and mention Xiaomi’s Dragon Crystal Glass protection.

Xiaomi 17 Review

One of the 17 Pro Max’s signature quirks, the rear “Dynamic Back Display”, is rumored to get an upgrade too, reportedly growing to around 4 inches (up from 2.9 inches on the 17 Pro Max), with higher brightness and possible privacy-protection features. Reports suggest Xiaomi wants to carry this rear-screen design forward across the 18 Pro line.

Performance: first with Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro

The Xiaomi 18 series is tipped to be the first to launch with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro, with the Pro Max getting the top-tier chip. Reported details include a 2nm process node and next-gen Oryon CPU cores in a 2+3+3 configuration, paired with an Adreno 850 GPU that packs 18MB of on-chip graphics memory and 8MB of last-level cache. The top-tier Pro Max is also expected to support faster LPDDR6 RAM, while the cheaper models stick with LPDDR5X.

Spec listings suggest configurations up to 12GB RAM and 512GB storage, though higher tiers are likely.

Battery and charging

Battery leaks vary, but all point toward a big cell enabled by silicon-anode battery tech. Early reports mentioned 7,000mAh “or bigger,” while more recent listings go as high as 8,500mAh. Charging figures range from 100W to 120W wired depending on the source, with fast wireless charging (leaks vary from around 50W up to 100W) and reverse wireless charging for topping up accessories. An IP69 rating, NFC, and an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint scanner round out the rumored feature set.

Price

Leaker Kartikey Singh suggests the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max could be priced in line with the Xiaomi 17 Ultra, a notable step up driven by rising chip and memory costs (the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro alone reportedly costs over $300). In India, listings peg an expected price around ₹89,990 for a higher-tier variant. Official global pricing hasn’t surfaced yet.

What about the Ultra?

Interestingly, the Xiaomi 18 Ultra is reportedly on hold, but not dead. Digital Chat Station says development was paused amid rising component costs, but the phone isn’t cancelled. Leakers say it could resurface as late as 2027 with a flagship 1-inch 200MP sensor. For now, the Pro Max looks like the true flagship of the lineup.

The bottom line

If even half of these leaks pan out, the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max could be a photography powerhouse and one of the most feature-dense Android flagships of the year. The dual 200MP camera system is the clear talking point, but the new Snapdragon silicon, a bigger battery, and an expanded rear display all add up to a compelling package. We’ll update this piece as Xiaomi’s September window gets closer and official details emerge.
