Statik Power Bank 1

REVIEW – Everyone has devices that are battery-powered these days. From your car to your earbuds to your screens to your watch, you’ve always got to find a place to “top up” the power cells of your current gadget.

My favorite form factor for these is now the back-of-the-phone magnetic model. Roughly the size of a deck of cards (though not nearly as thick!), these little wonders attach to your phone with a *snick* and immediately start to recharge the battery.

Statik, a company that offers many innovative cables and charging solutions, has recently released their 5000 mAh model. Because of their semi-solid battery technology, they call it the Statik State Power Bank. (Hey, I’m a Dad! I appreciate a good pun! I’m just irritated that I didn’t get to think of it.)

Let’s look more closely.

Statik Power Bank 6

Design and features

The Statik State Power Bank is a solid rectangular polygon 4” x 2.6875” x .4375”. The corners are slightly rounded, so it feels really good in your hand and doesn’t get caught up in pockets or in your pack. It is available in Henry Ford’s favorite color: black. On one large face, there is a grey MagSafe symbol (the circle with the single vertical line below it) with the “Statik” brand in the center, and info about the device in either lower corner. On the opposite large side is simply the company name and the product name. The lower small face has a single USB-C port and five LEDs that glow through pinprick holes. Four are “gas gauges” that tell you the current capacity, while one is a green LED that alerts you that the device is properly connected.

Opposite the LEDs, there is a single button that can be pressed once to show you the current state of the battery charge if it is not in use, or clicked twice to set it into low-power mode for charging 5W items, like smart watches, EarPods, and some other EDC items. When the device is in low power mode, the LEDs flash.

Assembly, Installation, Setup

Like most battery packs, there is no setup, only charging. Once charged, it’s ready to power whatever you throw at it.

Performance

Like most chargers of this type, it will charge MagSafe and Qi2-enabled devices. It charges at the standard 15 V for most phones. I have taken to having one of these units in a side pocket of my “tactical” pants, which I usually wear in Fall/Winter. As with other charger reviews, I pulled it out in various places where there are non-Apple people around to check the compatibility. Most Android phones now will recognize the presence of the charging coil, but some require you to press the button to get it started. All require removing the protective cases that most folks apply. (This is also true of iPhone users, but many, if not most, cases now have MagSafe built in. I guess iPhone case makers got tired of getting returns from those who tried to charge and didn’t realize they needed a “special” case to use the feature! All Apple branded iPhone cases have been MagSafe compatible since the iPhone 12 was released with the standard in 2020.)

Sometimes, the camera array prevented the charger from attaching securely to some Android phones, but I found it worked very well with the Pixel 9 Pro and the Motorola Moto g stylus 2025. All of the current (iPhone 12 and newer) iPhone models worked flawlessly. (This is not an exhaustive list, by any means. It’s just the phones my friends had on the nights I happened to have the battery pack and thought to ask them.)

Final thoughts

Keeping our electronics charged is the new “plowing the South 40”. It’s a task that has to be done, and recurs with alarming frequency. Fortunately, there is an entire industry that has grown up around portable power. A few years ago, I gifted my daughters with a portable power bank, and they were a bit dismayed until the first time they used them. It doesn’t take long to find the utility in these little brick-like batteries!

The Statik State is now a regular feature in my EDC rotation. It’s slim enough and holds a charge a good long time in case I don’t use it for a few days. And the black, of course, goes with all my outfits. 😉

What I like about the Statik State Power Bank

  • Long lasting
  • Charges other items through USB-C
  • MagSafe magnet is very strong

What needs to be improved?

  • Nothing that I could think of
