REVIEW – Bugs like me. I’ve had more than one doctor say that I’ve had the worst case of bites they’ve ever seen. As a result, I’ve tried it all. Creams, sprays, clothes wash concoctions, soaps, and wristbands. What I’ve learned is that I will never completely stop bugs from biting me, but I can treat those bites with heat and sometimes they don’t even develop into a full-fledged problem. The Nitecore Bite Healer 10 is the latest heat treatment bite gadget that I’ve used, and I’m a big fan.

Design and features

I’ve used a number of similar bite healers, but the Nitecore Bite Healer 10 has a few things going for it that most others don’t. First, it fits on a keychain. This is nice because it means you always have it, and the key to keeping bites from becoming inflamed is treating them as soon as you feel any irritation. The Bite Healer 10 is also rechargeable and when fully charged has about 100 applications. It also features low standby power consumption. According to Nitecore, the standby time is up to a year. I’ve had a bunch that work off of batteries, but not having to worry about that means it is great for travel.

The Bite Healer 10 did confuse me when I first started using it. It has two buttons, one marked “Low,” which only heats to 113 degrees f, and a “Hi” button which heats to 122 degrees f. If you hold these buttons, it adds seconds to the treatment time At the lowest setting, the duration is 3 seconds. As you add time, blue indicators light up showing extra seconds added to the treatment. Personally, I found that to be too much to keep track of. I wound up just choosing “Hi” and holding it to the bite for as long as I could stand it. If I still itched, I did it again.

The secret to the heat transference is a high thermal conductivity contact plate on the end of the Bite Healer 10. The other end has a loop so you can attach it to the enclosed keychain, and on the side are the buttons and a USB-C port for charging. It is IP54 rated, which makes it dust and water-resistant.

I think it would be ideal if this came in a lighter color. I know a lot of people like black, but I lost this thing about 4 times in the recesses of my bag before I got it attached to my keys. If white was an option, I would have liked to have had that one.

Final thoughts

I’m so sold on bite healers that I never travel without one, and I keep one upstairs by my bed and one downstairs so I can use it whenever I feel something start to itch. I know that seems extreme, but once you use one, you’ll know why. These things work without any chemicals, goop or greasy texture. The effects last for hours. The Bite Healer 10 has become the one I take with me because it attaches with the enclosed key clasp and it’s always ready to go. It’s also very tiny which makes it perfect for EDC.

I found all the buttons and lights too much to keep track of. I think they should simplify it maybe.
