REVIEW – Last year, I reviewed the ANNKE FCD600 dual lens PoE outdoor camera. I ended up permanently installing it on my detached garage to add it to my home security setup, which uses the Synology Surveillance Station software. Recently, ANNKE asked if I would like to review an updated version, the FCD800 PoE dual lens panoramic outdoor security camera. I was happy to accept because you can never have too many security cameras. Let’s take a look.

What is it?

The ANNKE FCD800 is a PoE dual lens panoramic outdoor security camera. If you don’t know what PoE stands for, it’s Power over Ethernet, which is a simple way to power specific devices like security cameras using the same network cable that sends their video data. This means one Ethernet cable can give a security camera both electricity and a connection to your DVR (digital video recorder) or router, so there’s no need for a separate power adapter or outlet near the camera.

Design and features

The FCD800 is an update to the FCD600. The main differences are with the mounting bracket, which is attached to the new version of the camera. It has an easy to adjust angle knob.

The cabling configuration this time is much simpler with just an Ethernet jack and an optional power plug. Note that a power adapter is not included with this camera. Since it’s a PoE camera, most people will just use one cable for connectivity to their network which is what I did.

The bottom of the camera features a protective cover that can be removed to access additional functions…

… like the reset switch and the micro SD card slot. Since I planned to add this camera to my existing Synology Surveillance Station setup, I didn’t add a micro SD card.

The business end of the ANNKE FCD800 PoE camera is where you’ll find the dual lens that provides a panoramic wide-angle view.

Compared to the previous model (FCD600), the new FCD800 has the same 180° field of view. But it has a higher resolution. The FCD600’s max resolution is 3632 × 1632 and the FCD800 is 4096 x 1860. The higher resolution is awesome for me because I get a lot of wild life around my home and I like to zoom in when I see something roaming around my yard.

ANNKE app

If you don’t already have a PoE camera software setup like I do (Synology Surveillance Station), you use the ANNKE app, which is amazingly fast to load the live view from the camera.

Here’s a picture of the wide-angle view from the dual-lens. Can you see how the images from the two camera lenses are stitched together to form one panoramic view? It’s easy to see if you look at the top of the picture in the center.

Here’s a night vision view. The image quality is crisp and clear both in the daytime and nighttime.

Here’s a view with my other PoE cameras through my Synology Surveillance Station software. I have this app open on my MacBook all day long so I can see what’s going on in real time outside when I’m down in my basement office. The ability to have a wider view compared to non-wide-angle cameras means fewer blind spots.

Final thoughts

The ANNKE FCD800 PoE dual lens camera checks every box for what a home security camera should offer today. After using it for several weeks, I really appreciate its simple setup. Just one Ethernet cable for both power and video is a real time-saver and makes installation a breeze. The camera’s panoramic wide-angle view means I get to see way more of my yard and catch all the action, whether it’s a neighbor’s cat or a sneaky coyote making a midnight appearance.

The upgraded resolution (4096 x 1860) is a big win, especially if, like me, you want to zoom in and get a crisp grip on fine details both during the day and at night. The live view in the ANNKE app is speedy, so checking in from anywhere takes just seconds. I use Synology Surveillance Station, and the camera fits into my setup with zero hassle.

Bottom line: This camera does everything I hoped it would and then some. If you’re looking for a reliable, easy-to-use security cam with modern features and great image quality, the FCD800 is easy to recommend. I couldn’t find a single thing that needs fixing.

What I like about the ANNKE FCD800 PoE outdoor security camera

  • One cable setup (PoE)
  • Super fast ANNKE app live view
  • Great wide angle and resolution

What needs to be improved?

  • Nothing
