Design and features

This lamp is amazing. I’m pretty sure it’s smarter than I am. I’ve had this lamp for 30 days now, and I still feel like I am finding out new fun features to play with.

It has three lighting zones. The lower section has the white colors. It ranges from 2700k to 6500k. These lights are dimmable and point directionally down. The lamp top does have the ability to tilt 30degrees in any direction. The middle section is a rim of light that changes colors. It is also dimmable, and can sync with music or shows to enhance the experience. The upper section is my favorite. It projects different ripple effects onto the wall and ceiling. The whole lamp is able to connect with Alexa, Google Assistant, and Matter. You can set up scenes that can include up to two of the three zones at a time, and have phrases to turn on what you programmed.

The Govee app has a lot of things that you can do with your lamp. There are programs that you can run that have already been designed for you, or you can make your own. There is no limit to the colors that you can choose. The app is pretty straight forward, but I’m sure if I had more Govee appliances it would be a little more complicated. There are a lot of different scenarios that can be run, and multiple objects can be linked in the same command. Because I only have one Govee item, for now, I don’t have to do a lot to make sure the lamp is working.

Some of the fun things that are already programmed are the different light modes. There are themes like nature, universe, festival, emotion, funny, and soothing. Each theme has 10 to 20 different pre-programmed scenes. Each scene has a color scheme and settings made to make it feel different and fun.

Another of the fun features is the ability to play music and the lights respond to the different sounds and dynamics. When my kids all found out about this feature they immediately had to stand around it singing and yelling and trying to get it to do what they thought would be funny. It’s fun for them, but my head can only handle so much of that kind of noise. Ha! I can definitely see how this would come in handy with the movie playing though. I don’t like it when it is super dark, I feel like the eye strain is worse when I do that. So I usually have some kind of lamp, or background light. This lamp gives off light, but can also blend in with the movie and react with what you hear.

The upper zone has a textured lens and rotating corrugated sheets to give off the ripple effect. I like to describe it as the northern lights. The colors it projects and the ripples together make it so relaxing and hypnotizing.

There are auto-run features available. Set up a schedule to have the light do different things at different times. You can choose sunrise or sunset which will create times that the light will auto go on or off. Or a bedtime routine that will slowly fade off for 15minutes. There could be a wake-up routine that slowly brings the lights on and brightens a little at a time to make it feel more like a natural sunrise wakeup. You can set specific timers that can be a one time thing, or repeat as often as you choose.

We are remodeling some of our house right now, and I have plans for this lamp to be the main light in my book nook. I can already imagine how wonderful this will be and am glad that I have the timer function so I won’t be as tempted to stay there all day.

The total height of the Govee Uplighter lamp is 66.9 inches. And the base is only 12 inches, so it is a very sleek, minimalistic lamp that can be put just about everywhere. If you want it shorter, you can undo the poles and unthread the power cord.

Assembly, Installation, Setup

Govee uplighterfloor lamp 6

Assembling this lamp was pretty easy. There were a couple times that an extra set of hands came in handy, but wasn’t essential. There are four poles that screw together, and the lamp top screws onto that. The power cord is threaded through the poles and out a hole in the base. The base also has a place for the cord to go through so the lamp is flat and doesn’t wobble on the cord. Once the poles are screwed together you connect two ends together. One is from the pole side, and the other is on the head of the lamp. This was where an extra set of hands came in handy.

There is a little arrow that you need to line up, but then you just push the two together. The base has a similar set up for the cord that plugs into the wall. That’s it for the physical set up. Nothing too crazy, and only takes 10 minutes or less. The smart side of the lamp was a little trickier. You need to make sure you have the Govee amp, and from there, the app guides you through the whole process of how to set it up, use voice command, change settings or routines. So many things that can be played with.

Final thoughts

The Govee Uplighter is a great lamp. It has all the features you can think of and more. It is fun and functional. You feel like you have been transported to the northern lights. The lights are available to voice command, app control, or just push the button. The more I learn about this lamp the more I love it. Although, I don’t think I could afford this lamp without a sale price.
