NEWS – I’m late to the party when it comes to VR headsets. I haven’t had an opportunity to try Meta Quest or Apple’s Vision Pro and the thing is, I don’t feel like I’m missing anything (yet). Gaming might be fun, but I’m not a gamer, and I can’t imagine wearing one of those headsets to watch movies. I like to enjoy movie nights with my sweetie next to me on the couch. Wearing a VR headset takes away the shared experience, making it more of a solitary activity.

When I discovered that there’s now a visual headset designed specifically for reading eBooks, my first question was why? Who needs this, or who “wants” a one-trick pony type of gadget like this one?

The Sol Reader allows you to connect to your Amazon Kindle library to read your books up close and personal to your eyeballs. You can also upload EPUB format books, and of course, it’s got AI baked in, so you can ask questions about the book that you’re reading.

The only use cases that come to mind are reading in bed at night without your phone or a booklight bothering your partner, and being able to read without holding a device. But other than that, it just doesn’t sound that fun to me. What am I missing? Let me know in the comments below. And if you want a Sol Reader, head over to solreader.com where you can order one for $249. I’m going to be a stick in the mud and use my phone to read my books (I’m currently reading my 25th book of the year).
